Now I just have to wait for Cheney to get us into another "polic action" and start up the draft again, so I can move to Canada and live a decent life.

Mars, I get. The Moon, I'm cool with. Telescopes, groovy.

    But Pluto? Why?

For the money they would spend, we could find out a LOT more about the Ocean, information that would truley have a substantial impact on the quality of our lives and our ability to make educated decisions about how we choose to interact with our own planet.

I fail to see how gathering limited information about a distant quasi-planet even comes close to yeilding the benefits that deveoting the same resources to oceanic exploring would.

I think the point of reviewing this book was to counter the commonly held notion that technology, or rather dependence upon technology, diminishes the quality or depth of a society's culture.

And so what if it isn't original? Naked Blonde chicks aren't orignial, either. But I still enjoy them.

I agree with you %100. That's why, in my house, we don't celebrate Christmas. We celebrate the Dave Barry-inspired "Athiest Children Get Presents Day". It's everything that's enjoyable about traditional American Christmas celebrations, but without having to go to church.

I nearly got into a fist fight with the Best Buy guy over my refusal to accept that my life hinged on the purchase of an extended warranty for my CD-RW drive.

Trying to buy an appliance there and need some help from an employee? Forgetta bout it.

"Tampering with elections is a felony with serious jail time."

I'm told the punishment for murder in the state of Texas is rather severe. Yet murders still occur.

To suggest that these hypothetical systems would not be craked because the punishment would be severe is absurd. Of course it would be cracked. Particularly if it is networked. Say GE moves a few crakers to Christmas Island...then what?

"The electoral college is a good thing, because without it, no one outside of CA, NY, FL, PA, and TX matters."

I've heard this too many times. WTF are my Congresswoman and my Senators doing in Washington if not representing me? I don't count on the Pres to represent my domestic interests. I depend on my Congressional representations for that. They are my voice.

When they abolish Congress, then talk to me about not mattering.
