Just go ahead and check the "Most Secure" option when installing Mandrake 8.1 and try to crack it. Now, install NT 4 Server and don't change the default password length requirement.
Which do you think a random kiddie would gain access to first?
Neil is by far my favorite graphic novel writer (next to Alan, of course). Anyone who doesn't already know should check out his Sandman books. He also wrote the best issue of Spawn, #9 I think.
Check it out, always looking for talented people in the RTP.
It is a very cool industry to be in. Most of the people I work with are PHDs. Almost all are Perl hackers. They use Linux. Lots of trendy VC furniture and free beer. Monster hardware to play with.
It is presently a small industry. But the scope is not limited to Pharmaceutical and Ag companies. Can't say too much (Insider laws and whatnot) but if you think this field is anything less that pre-supernova, you're wrong. Commercial applications of our technolgies are just now becoming apparent. There is no end to the potential growth of this field.

..how on earth we could ever be a going business if we gave away our content for free"
Hmmm...That guy ever watched TV? Or listened to the radio?
People don't much care to pay for content. At least, to pay very much. The real motivation for content creation from a fiscal perspective is to sell advertising. That's where CBS, NBC, et al make their money. It's where Radio stations make their money. Even magazines make most of thier money that way. I think we all know that.
Can you have one without the other? Openess, or loosely restricted information distribution, is an important component of exercised Freedom.
As Linus stated in his rebuttle to Mr. Mundie (and others have stated before him), the greatest example of the power of Open and Free exchange of information is the Scientific Revolution. Those men/women who truley made the greatest contributions to our understanding of the world around us did not keep a tight grip on thier knowledge. If they had, we would surely not understand as much as we think we do. That was my rationale.
(viewed as a Good Thing from a certain perspective, but not from a fiscal/business one)
Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn. That "certain" perspective is the overiding perspective. What's good for bidness takes a back seat to what's good for Freedom.
You fail to see that Freedom oand Openess are the bedrock of commerce. It's a supreme necessity for anyone seeking to be more than a consmer of goods.
Haven't they been doing this for years? When was the last time you tried to open a document written in
Word97/98 with Word 5.1a? The fact is, with the sole exception of DOS,
MS has been planning and enforcing the obsolescence of its document formats for the past decade (if not
longer).
That they are using the license now is just a new wrinkle. Their products aren't impressing anyone,
the IT world is sick of them, and they are sliding downhill. Of course they turn to their lawyers now.
My name is Dan Isaacs. I'm seeking a high-level management position, preferably managing the technical staff at a techonolgy company. While I have little experience dealing with programmers, I do have considerable experience managing a fast food resteraunt and a convenience store, as indicated in my attached resume. Additionally, I have passed my A+ Certification, so I obviously know a lot about technology. Combined, my experience and education make me the perfect candidate for this position.

I feel the same way about my old girlfriends.
"According to the USA laws... holocaust denial are not considered crimes. "
Since when should refusal to accept a verifiable fact be a criminal act? Should we inprison the members of the Flat Earth Society, too?
Frankly, I don't care that it's an American idea. Occasionaly, we have good ones. That Europe doesn't quite appreciate it matters little to us. That was sorta the point to begin with.
At no time did Mike say that multiple 'compressed' files were acceptable. He only used the singular "file". However, he was asked, point blank, "Are multiple compressed files acceptable?" and gave a less than straightforward answer.
Mike ought to send the C note back. Even though Patrick did not complete the challenge.
But enough about the media

It is that point which RMS seems to get, and hammer (and hammer, and hammer..) into our thick skulls every time he opens his mouth/text editor.

1. I've been brainwashed by the deluge of anti-mpaa sentiment in the circles I travel.
or
2. The mpaa just doesn't have many decent rebuttles for the defense's arguments.
I agree. I would much rather the President be letting Oil companies write our Energy policy than a few Chinese sipping tea in the White House.

I don't Gnow why I ought to stop using Konquerer. How Does Big Mo compare?

by the time these things are in production, we'll have supersonic submarines with gun turrets to shoot them down.
It should be interesting to see how the stats change once a few thousand /. readers start playing with this.
MS isn't claiming they have a 'right' to this information. They are just asking for it, and offering a few cheezy door prizes if OEMs comply.
You are correct, MS has no legal right to this info, and OEMs are NOT oblidged to give it. But if they really need a new grill....

I'm willing to pedal my bicycle. What I really want are a set of batteries for my digital camera that last more than two days.
