I see no difficulty in relating it to MS. In the lower part, its pretty obvious it is related to MS. It says:
this site is not an officially supported site. it is an incubation experiment and doesn't represent any particular strategy or policy. for other incubation experiments, see http://sandbox.msn.com./ enjoy!
This is another idea. MS has it own personalized startup page within MSN. This start page is very, very interesting way of browsing multiple RSS feeds quickly. Shame that, at the moment, it doesnt log your user session, so you cannot save your settings, but for me, regardless it is MS, it is beautifully done and well thought.
Why not connect it to your house AC supply? If its a device in a fixed location, which you use dailly, seems like me as too much hassle/cost to keep on replacing batteries all the time. Get a AC/DC transformer with the correct voltage, hide it somewhere and connect it to the battery leads if the device does not have a DC connector.
I do this with several things at my house and saved on a lot of hassle, if not money in the long run.
Probably no one will read this lone post so late in the posting frenzy but...
If you where a friend asking me for advice, I would recommend you visit Europe instead. America is great, but it is expensive, distances are long, etc, when compared to backpacking in Europe. Also, YMMV, IMHO, depends in your taste, Europe is more diverse, has more 'real' stuff, older things and museums which make it far more interesting. Much more alternatives, its more pintoresque, varied, easier to travel diverse cultures in less time, etc. For a backpacker, lots more hostals, cheap means of transportationm decent public service and culture more open to the lone traveler. For a geek, there are MANY things to see. Besides much more open minded and liberated womnn from different countries, ethnic groups.
I am by no way saying the US in not interesting, but as a young backpacker I'd rather do Europe, 10 or 15 countries, than the US. And I did, a few years ago. In 2 monthes I am taking my motorcycle and travelling for 1 month around Europe. That should prove interesting too.
What I do want to do someday is make a long trip to the US, but to the great outdoors and small town america. Tired of the same old big cities and suburban america.
As an op and user in a few channels, I appreciate people like you who help newbies and try to help (in programming, my area) as much people as I can.
Anyway, thanks for that time, I love IRC and feel people like you are important and undervalued - but I do the helping for love of the art and knowledge, not expecting anything in return. Networks come and go, and its good you left for other parts of the net.
Me, I am afraid that Undernet will meet the same ridiculous destiny - die by such stupid attackers... I love undernet, its an excelent tool for my work. Still chances are there will be a replacement.
Anyway....
THANKS!! that's all I wanted to say initially, after reading all the stupid replies to your message. And I know what you mean by community, I try to give that feeling to the channels I participate in.
Try Netcaptor, an add-in for IE which adds most of the stuff you miss in IE from Opera or Mozilla, Tabbed windows, mouse gesture, navigation groups, etc. Its GREAT.
Went there, COOL PLACE, well worth the trip + its a great city.
The place, if you like to enjoy museums (see all the demonstrations (every 30mins/1 hour), read all explanations), is huge, and will take more than 1 day to complete. It took me 2.5, enjoying everything I had an interest for.
They SAY it is the largest technology/engineering museum in the world but I am not sure of this fact.
On the article they dont mention the battery life on this thing. The microdrive is GREAT, but it consumes a lot of battery life when compared to a flash memory card.
Yes, C# makes programs written by stupid programmers a tad most secure.
But I wonder why MOST of all the secure code is written in unsecure C or C++. I think it all boils down to coding practices and priorities. MS priorities are very different from that that has, traditionally, produced safe code.
Now if MS gets itself together with this 'secure' software initiative open source and linux is going to face a big challenge. My XP computer has not crashed in 3 monthes, and I use it 10, 15 hours every day in what I consider a heavy load. It's still bloatware in many aspects, but it is good.
Sorry about the reactions of this ACs, it shows their maturity and probable, their (mental) age. I hope you son keeps up, it must be really hard. Been in face of personal problems lately and learnt than next to health, most problems are nothing.
Best luck, honestly. It makes me mad to know all the drugs that dont go into market fast enough because of testing and legal hassles, and many people meanwhile are dying. But this is needed, to keep drugs from killing or hurting. What drives me mad is politics and religion(W, any one?) getting in the way of medicine...
Thanks for the excellent answer, SAVE for the first paragraph - loose the attitude, and just remember me to RTFM. I have read the FAQ, but that was just a few years ago. Thanks to you and all who replied with their thoughts.
Site is slashdotted, as most things are when posted in/., at least the first few hours/days.
Why doesn't slashdot mirror sites is link to? Legal issues, I guess? I also guess that many people has suggested this before....
Anyway, IMHO it would be great, but the usual copyright laws/junk get in the way...
What about putting a screenshot of a site? Would that get into copyright problems? I guess too... it was AMAZING to read about this college professor (I believe) showing ways to put the CSS decryption source code in all the formats imaginable, and then talking about it in court hearings as an expert. This issues are not simple, indeed.
(3) continue to use more energy per person than any four other countries, and (4) have to bend over and take it up the ass any time the Arabs decide the Yankee Infidels are getting too big for their boots.
Number 4 is... what can I say, has a grain of truth in it. The attitude and external policy of the US has caused this hate (while it in no way justifies any terrorism).
3 is, I belice, more than the next four countries combined. And energy consumption, the US is the leader, by a large margin, in waste production, pollution, and many other things. And most americans dont give a damn.
All is just IMHO and I am not anti-american in no way.
Amen. Why was this modded Funny? Ah... the truck, cell phone part.
Whatever. I also love my huge case with maaany hd's in (from an 8Gb oldie to an 80Gb scsi unit), and many, many stuff in. It sits on the floor, it has wheels so its easy to move around to fix, and my desktop is clear for all my junk.

LOL!!
I also miss Asimov, and inmediatly thought of him when I read this article.
Wow this is also the best Ive seen. VERY GOOD implementation!!!

Nice toy for the tub, BTW

Just my 2c, as usual.
I love Acura's. RSX by any chance?

Sounds nice! Now stop showing off!! (cause I a m jealous).
I get: a xmas dinner. And nothing. So much for working overtime...

Stupid comments. I found this post very interesting and would moderate it well if I could.
These guys should get a Darwin award ASAP for their stupidity.
I hope they get a nice, large boyfriend in jail to remind them of their get rich fast idea.
Read this. It is quite good, more so for us real developers who gotta work with MS software all day long.
gree with this 100%, I am a linux user and programmer and have found XP to be very usable and stable, given good hardware and drivers.
COLOMBIAN, NOT COLUMBIAN!!
Darn, how much I hate it. The country is called Colombia, not columbia.
COLOMBIA, not columbia. Typical american. Its quite different one and the other.
On the article they dont mention the battery life on this thing. The microdrive is GREAT, but it consumes a lot of battery life when compared to a flash memory card.
Anyone has any info on this?
Thanks!
