I think some people are missing the point.
The big argument against DX is it only runs on windows. The same things that make windows awful for most things makes it superior for gaming. Windows has such an incredible boost for foreground applications (especially ME/98) that it makes it much easier for gaming..
How many times have you had an mp3 skip because something stupid is happening in the background on linux?? It's great that you can game or do multimedia on linux, but the fact is that what is the point of ramming the square peg into the round hole??
How is this any different than that pig-latin thing going on a while ago?? (except applying encryption to the file itself to prevent "acoustic fingerprinting" ).
If I remember correctly, didn't Napster just politely ask them to stop and they did?
"I think everyone has got it all wrong here..
We we really need to do is strike at the heart of the problem... SATAN!!!"
That's probably the discussion going on right now in the backwards minds of the republican congress..
Perhaps the school shootings aren't increasing in frequency, but increasing in success rate.
I can't say that playing quake is more likely to turn you into a cold-hearted killer than, say, Football or any other violent sport that the media would suggest as a "health" alternative to gaming.
What quake will do, however, is make you more efficient at killing if you happen to already be ready to go off.
Maybe what is really bothering people is how accurate kids are becoming. In the past I remember hearing about kids bringing guns to school and injury one person.. without many bullets fired. Now we hear about many killed many injured, few misses..
Well.. the ps2 doesn't have any internet access available right now, linux on ps2 could fix that.
Plus we could start running some emulators for various other gaming consoles on the ps2.. and there is no way you can say that using an emulator on a pc is as good as actually hooking a console up to tv..
What it needs now is a harddrive though.. what good is linux with no storage space?
I wonder if someone could write drivers for usb modems and the like for it.. as opposed to waiting until sony gets around to releasing their "online solution".
You should leave your email if you want people to contact you on that.. I don't personally have access to a big screen but I know U of T is open to that kind of thing.. they have lots of Anime Festivals and such... and most of the big lecture halls have projectors..
Count me in if you find anything...
I think that might be the catch..
it has no support for DTS sound ( they mention only AC-3 ) and it has only S-Video and Composite Video.. not component...
That has gotta hurt...
Well.. I think that, as others have mentioned, as nice as it would be for them to continue supporting it.. it just costs too much. They probably get like 5 requests for wolfenstein a year.. and that probably just isn't worth their trouble.. and the shelf lives on disks isn't that long.. in some cases any old distribution media they have around may no longer work!!
That is another mandate of abandonware I suppose.. to preserve the older games by keeping it on new media..
Maybe I am wrong... but I thought the whole idea behind abandonware was that it all cases you couldn't purchase the old software from the original copyright holder even if you wanted to.
I took a look at underdogs and they have removed the download links on all IDSA companies's games and replaced it with something along the lines of:"please contact the original publisher to buy this title".
I am willing to bet that Sierra isn't supporting Manhunter 1..
You need to compare apples to apples.
Load all the services that windows 2000 has onto Linux and compare. You might be surprised.
I think the great thing about Linux is it's much easier to pick and choose what services you want and don't..
Price aside, just because it "can" be used as a replacement, doesn't mean it should be or that it is better.

Anyone know of a good source for the hardware needed to do that??
Perhaps the power companies can sue for "lost market opportunities".
haha.. Very funny... Unless of coarse you are serious.

I know that Ryerson in Toronto has had one for years.. The school sells pcmcia cards that are wireless 10mbs modems..

On the other hand, cooperation is rewarded and you don't necessarily need to play to control resources. Diplomacy is a very large part of the game..
I have been very happy with my JVC reciever... they seem to be the best bang for the buck.. sure for 4x more I can get 25% better.. but who cares..
