One has to wonder why some of the largest copyright infringers and shonky outfits on the net haven't had their domain names revoked yet. I suspect such sites are being used by various agencies for nefarious purposes.
I assume this is for low duty servers ?
In any case, Intel has made a complete mess of its processor naming conventions. They lack any form of consistency or logic.
Ham radio is getting more popular because people are attracted to the idea of building their own gear and communicating with others in regions of the world that are totally inaccessible by internet or phone. In addition, the cost of Ham gear has fallen dramatically thanks to the chinese who now mass produce a range of reasonable quality ham rigs (companies such as Wouxun, Puxing, Quansheng are the big ones).
Sour grapes from Tanenbaum. Who wants to hear his sob story about how he didn't get anywhere near as successful as Linus Torvalds ?
Answer: Nobody
Stuff happens and people make bad judgements all the time. Tsnnenbaum is just a disgruntled old fool.
The only good thing about openSUSE is YaST. The rest of it is so-so and lacking in functionality when compaed with other distros like Fedora, Ubuntu and even Debian.
The only reason to stick with Windows instead of Linux is to run applications that don't work correctly with Wine or VirtualBox. Games and some CAD programs come to mind here. As to why people still choose to stick with Windows regardless - inertia. Resistance to change and fear of alternatives are the key elements driving end-user persistence of Windows.
Windows fails as a fault-tolerant, stable, secure and responsive OS. It's just a bloated mess that requires too much maintenance. If Microsoft made cars the made the same way they make their Operating Systems they would be sued out of existence. It's a pity end-users don't demand quality software because if they did, Microsoft would change its act quick smart.
Unity is only part of the problem with the latest releases of Ubuntu. The other half deals with Canonical and its rapid escalation down the path of proprietary software and shady deals. It's quite an issue when a private software company headed by a self-appointed GUI dictator (Shuttleworth) decides to give all power users the middle finger, but it's also a bigger deal when said company does deals with Microsoft that work against the principles of FOSS. Canonical contributes next to nothing to Linux development (much like Google) and their success has been made at the expense of a community of developers - namely those from the Debian project. Ripping off FOSS for profit and not offering anything in return is shonky and disrespectful.
Given the above and Canonicals failure to ensure the stability of their distro releases, it's no wonder more solid distros like Linux Mint/LMDE are gaining popularity. Canonical had its day in the sun but now they can't see the forest from the trees. They are dictating to their end-users instead of listening to them. That approach is doomed to fail.
Firefox is still a safer browser than Chrome. I wouldn't trust anything from Google as they have no respect for end-user privacy. Their CEO if a first class asshole who treats all PC users with contempt.
Another useless lawyer with an agenda. What else is new...
Anyone with a brain can see that Google is ripping off FOSS and doesn't give a shit about returning anything back to the community. Android IS a proprietary implemantation of the LInux kernel and shouldn't be considered part of the GNU/Linux community.
Firefox needs to go on a diet. It's getting way too bloated now compared to what it used to be. I see that the memory leak and high cpu issues are STILL not fixed.
Way to go Mozilla - maybe by version 99 you'll get it right ?
MacOS X is not BSD Unix - it's a bastardised fork of BSD (Darwin) which borrows some FreeBSD/NetBSD and Mach components. It's a pity Apple left out most the security enhancements from FreeBSD.
A super profits tax on the banks earnings would make much more sense. These institutions are swimming in funds that have been obtained through devious and illegal methods (eg. the loaning out of credit that doesn't exist).
One would have to be a masochist to run FreeBSD On the desktop. It's way too cryptic and limited in functionality for dssktop use. Hardware support is not as extensive as Linux and it lacks simple things like a native flash player.
Nope. BSD should stick to servers.
Not too many world leaders like Nitwityahoo but one must remember that Israel has the US by the nuts. It's their proxy war and financial machine which they have now almost wrecked beyond recognition.
rpm = really poor package management.
Cloud computing services ? Are they nuts ? Cloud computing is a security nightmare and I shudder to think what bonehead corporations and individuals are willing to sacrifice the privacy of their data to faceless entities.
The biggest problem with the mad rush of new dumbed-down smartphone interfaces is the loss of flexibility. More and more controls, functionality and features are being removed from user interfaces in a failed attempt to improve simplicity. These changes have created nothing but frustration for power users who like a sense of control over their desktop. That is the point - control is being taken AWAY from the end-user thus rendering them subject to the whims of the OS developer or hardware manufacturer. The end-user is considered hostile and untrustworthy and needs to be controlled. It stinks and I can't see it getting better with the security nightmare that is cloud computing.
Unity is a slap in the face for power users. It's like Mark Shuttleworth is giving us the middle finger and saying "tough shit.. live with it". Well, I have news for you Mark - FOAD!
If Canonical forces Unity down the throats of LTS users by not offering a Gnome classic mode then they are insane. Business customers don't give a flying shit about compositing, wobbly windows and other sugar candy nonsense on a desktop - they just want a stable platform. I see a mass exodus of even more disgruntled Ubuntu users in the months to come as people wise up to Canonical's arrogance and disrespect for their userbase. Ubuntu 11.04/11.10 has already demonstrtaed just how out of touch and plain misguided the boneheads at Canonical are. They fail to fix critical system breakages and now they choose a desktop shell which only a kid would appreciate.

Partnering with Microsoft is a poisoned chalice. Look what they did to Novell.

OS X is not a mission critical OS. Even Apple says so. Makes one wonder just how seriously Apple takes OS security.

Oracle has messed up Solaris and pretty much everything they have acquired (Java, Vbox, OO).
