  1. A long time coming on Remastered Star Trek: the Next Generation Blu-ray a Huge Leap Forward · · Score: 1

This is a huge undertaking by CBS/Paramount and I hope they do justice to the series by not tampering too much with the special effects (which have to be redone in HD). From what i've seen of some of the episodes in HD the content looks impressive but does have its flaws. Part of one episode (Sins of the father) looks upscaled from DVD whilst the rest looks like a direct lift off the 35mm source.

  2. Gnome 3 Shell is a mess on GNOME 3: Beauty To the Bone? · · Score: 1

Gnome developers are clueless idiots who are ripping off OS X in an attempt to look hip. Maybe they should team up with Comical if they're so obsessed with copyring everything Apple is doing. Thank god for the CLI and Xfce!

  3. Kubuntu is terrrible on Canonical Pulls Kubuntu Personnel Funding · · Score: 1

It's obscene and could only be justified if the person/persons being monitored have committed or are engaged in serious criminal activites. These laws treat everyone like a criminal or terrorist. Sheer insanity. Where will it end ?

  9. Re:I liked Ubuntu when it was "polished" Debian on Ubuntu 12.04 To Include Head-Up Display Menus · · Score: 1

Shuttledork is just a misguided cointrol freak who is desperate to turn a profit from his charity venture (Canonical). The sheer arrogance of the guy and his failure to acknowledge the Debian community as the base for Ubuntu are two things that piss me off. His sanctimonious and hostile attitude towards Linux users is sickening to watch and is so far removed from what open source is all about. He has totally lost the plot and is now pushing Ubuntu down a proprietary path for which their is no turning back. He will either sink or swim. I'm betting that Canonical will get aborbed by somebody who knows better than Shuttledork and his and his band of tools.

  10. More pointless garbage from Canonical on Ubuntu 12.04 To Include Head-Up Display Menus · · Score: 1

Canonical are once again shooting themselves in the foot by introducing radically new and awkward changes to the desktop environment of Ubuntu. Now they want to incorporate a useless HUD which will slow users down even more and frustrate the hell out of them. Is there no end to the madness at Canonical ? Haven't they learned that users are NOT happy with their absurd changes (re Unity) and their complete and utter failure to fix serious breakages and regressions with Ubuntu itself ? Obviously not - Canonical is being run a bunch of lying, self-absorbed opportunists who think their way is best and stuff everyone else. I'm so glad I dumped this fascist distro and moved to LMDE. Canonical can sink and die for all I care.

  11. More thug tactics from Microsoft on Microsoft Taking Aggressive Steps Against Linux On ARM · · Score: 2

Microsoft are so desperate to contain the widespread adoption of GNU/Linux on non-x86 platforms they have to now resort to OS lockout. Instead of competing fairly by actually developing good software Microsoft would rather choose the path of least effort - and greater hostility Same old. Same new. Microsoft will never change unless the toothless tigers in government decide to break up this behemoth of a company.

Is it any wonder that identity fraud is now rampant because of the stupidity and sheer ignorance of people using computers and mobile devices.

  14. Re:GNOME has always been fucked up. on Linux Mint Developer Forks Gnome 3 · · Score: 1

Touch and smartphone interfaces are not a huge hit at all unless one believes all the propaganda and lies from companies like Canonical. Unity is a solution looking for a problem. It's awkward, clunky, unstable and just totally inappropriate for desktop use. On a large screen (24"+) that goddam launch bar is hideous and it wastes valuable screen space. Shuttleworth and the other clowns at Comical must have rocks in their head if they think people are going to embrace a dumbed-down smartphone interface on laptops and desktops. It's plainly obvious they don't give a rats ass about power users and those who want a clean and and functional desktop environment. They are too busy trying to copy Apple and that goddam awful Mac OS X.

Clearly, if they were able to get both of these details using social engineering or a keylogging trojan then the victim must be a careless and clueless idiot. I suspect that Google doesn't want to see this happen yet its continual development priorities with Chrome and it's nefarious agenda are clearly at odds with Mozilla's direction for Firefox. Google will probably just throw Mozilla a bone and say "here, work with this amount of $xxx and don't infringe on our browser's functionality". We have smartphones, tablets, netbooks, laptops, media players etc. Cheap LCD monitors are being used for games consoles and DVD/Bluray disc watching instead of gawking at free to air rubbish. The multitude of choices for watching content has impacted TV sales quite a bit and the manufacturers are trying to arrest this decline by offering more smart features built into TVs. The problem is, a lot of these extra features (eg. 3D, video streaming) are too awkward to use or require some proprietary configuration. In addition to the above, many people are fed up waiting for shows to appear on FTA TV ad have opted to source their content online instead.

  25. bean counters on Why Everyone Hates the IT Department · · Score: 1

Like a lot of departments today, IT is run by boneheaded bean counters who lack any comprehension of technical matters. I regularly have to fight with these moronic turds for extra funding whilst having to endure the wrath of irate "clients" who think network engineers can work magic. The term "chief shit stirrer" is used a lot when referring to system engineers and is considered (in my view) as both apt and offensive.
