    If my employer thinks I need to be responsive (eg. to keep customers/clients happy or to get an important contract) that company should also know is worth to pay those expenses.

    WTF. I'd say this is rather selfish, but possibly the remark wasn't serious.

    My suggestion is to give them the finger. If everybody refuses to make 'comitted overtime' etc etc. What will they do?

    Is there no employee representation to negotioate about that kind of things?

    If you accept that you pay phonecosts made on a private line you are just accepting a cut in your salary.

    For what I know Japanese are _really_ good at 'selling their soul' to the company.

    Working 10 hours a day is 'normal' (for what i heared).

    I just don't believe it! The president will be elected based on who has the funniest game? Or at least games are used to influence votes?
    Politics isn't about games. It's all but a game. It people think about politics as a game or is they are influenced by it, then where will this world go?

    Matters are far to complex already on a local scale let alone on a nationwide or worldwide scale.

    Yeah, I know what you mean. These kids can't wrap their tiny minds around the following concepts:

    * A table is not a class
    * A row is not an object
    * A column is not a property


    Ofcourse it's just 'data'. But I can instantiate an object with the data from the db...

    So then why does this cause the project to go wrong?

    A friend of mine discribed he feeled insulted and scammed after seeing the day after tomorrow ;)

    But hey. That's the power of the media (which can and will be bought). Look at a program like Idols. The whole concept is to create a mediahype and to profit from the spinn-off.

    Same thing with Bush by the way. In the aspect of using the media to influence the people.

    And how can media be independent if they depend on their income (generated by their advertisers).
    So if the advertisers fay a movie is good the media say 'how high'.

    Don't don't don't believe the hype. Wait 'till you hear the first reactions from your friends. Then you'll know if it was worth waiting for it :)

    This is not rediculous is you agree to use their free services, based on the agreement that you will have to watch their ads (MSN, ICQ, the rest I don't know) to generate the money you otherwise are paying to use their service.

    If I give you a free phone and free calls on the condition you see my ads on a screen on my phone and you decide to use a phone without screen I get no revenue from my ads, so then what's in it for me and why should I continue to give you free services?

    And that's all there is to it.

    what is the difference between having an other country speak a certain language (by occupying it) or forcing a political ideology upon them?

    well? indeed. it's just as bad.

    and think of it. being 60 years later, by now we probably would be used to speaking german or one of the other languages.

    hmm. ok. maybe not. native americans still have to fight for their rights.
