  1. Upgrade? on Rivals Upset At Windows XP Features · · Score: 1

This is truely the most interesting defenition of the word "upgrade" i've ever seen. I always thought an upgrade had something to do with improving the featues that already exist. Here it seems more like an upgrade means more hd-space required and more unwanted programs in your system.

From this moment on I'll have to stop calling Windows an operating system. My defenition of an operating system is more in the direction of 'that piece of software that makes the computer able to use the hardware and run programs'.

When will microsoft start making different distributions? This would make things more interesting. One with a lot of extra features and programms added. One other with a minimal install. Just like you have Linux distributions in different flavours based on the same kernel. Microsoft should do this too. I thing that would make some more friends.

I think one thing that upsets people is that they really have no choice.
"You're not forced to upgrade" is no choice.

I fully agree on the point of freedom you bring up. Maybe I don't live in Amerika, but that doesn't change much about my point. Here in Europe there also is freedom. An other thing we have in common is wealth. Something that is missing terribly in a continent as Africa. Just as endless opportunities are missing there.

The good thing about heaving wealth and freedom is that you are able to share with or help less fortunate people.

Ofcource there is a bifference between an adopted child an your own "flesh and blood". But my point is that instead of spending thousands of dollars on IF you also can adopt a child and spend that money on helping the less-fortunate.
This will not give you profit or personal gain, but it WILL make others who have no opportunities a little bit happier.

THAT is a thought that, I think, is missing not only in Amerika, but also in Europe.

I could (and love to) go on about this, but I'd rather do it by E-mail than here.

Maybe there sould a ethical law that for every child you give life to you should also adopt a child in the 3rd world. Just to geve them a chance also.

  13. Bad thing for Linux??? on Promises And Pitfalls In Linux Game Development · · Score: 1

I'm not so sure if it's a good thing to have a lot of companys writing games for linux. One thing i expect (and fear) is that they will write Direct-X-like (for example) drvers which HAVE to be installed if you want to run the game. I remember earlyer windows-games which absolutely needed quicktime to run. Next to the media player, Real-player, this player and that player I don't need yet another moveplayer

Well. What will happen? Game-companys will write drivers, accelerators, movieplayers and more and that will improve the possibilities of Linux. On the other hand it's just waiting until those drivers will be compiled in the kernel as default-options, overloading it with unneccesary code and 'features', like the other os...

(ok. you can recompile a kernel, but there will be a lot of people running OOTB systems, but maybe they will be happy with a 'game-kernel'.

I've set the 'Java' option off. 98% of the pages I visit work perfectly without. So there is no need for me to upgrade.
I don't see why I need all the 'extra features' is in my browser and on web-pages. Flash makes my P166 rather slow. For 'happy tunes' I have a radio. Also extra features often contain serious security-bugs. (Outlook??)
I'm really happy without all those fancy features, shopping buttons and more. To me a good page is text and some graphics. If you need more to tell your message, your message is wrong. KISS. Keep it simple, stupid!

I think maybe it's time to start a campain to make all sites LYNX-compatible.

I agree, Linux can be a pain in the **** sometimes, but I'm sure not missing the feature BSOD. (which also come pre-installed with Windows). If you install Linux, you have to spend a lot of time installing extra features and with windows you spend a lot of time uninstalling features. It's just a different approach ;)
