Doesn't that make you feel better?

I just took a look at it (beta) again, and I can't even read summaries because there's not enough room to display them. The information density is terrible. But what's even worse than the Beta itself is what it reveals about the priorities of whoever greenlit it.

I don't think they've really heard the outcry. "Coming back with a new plan" feels an awful lot like "wait three months and give it a new coat of paint". The slashcott is a way of trying to make damn sure it's understood this isn't simply 'I don't like it' but the much stronger 'I cannot and will not participate in a version of Slashdot like that being proposed'. With a healthy addendum of, 'WTF were you thinking in the first place!' All IMNSHO, of course.

And then when you replace their hive with a plastic beach ball in a week, both they and you will be surprised and astonished when honey production drops to zero and stays there.

Please post this to new articles if it hasn't been posted yet.

On February 5, 2014, Slashdot announced through a javascript popup that they are starting to "move in to" the new Slashdot Beta design.

Slashdot Beta is a trend-following attempt to give Slashdot a fresh look, an approach that has led to less space for text and an abandonment of the traditional Slashdot look. Much worse than that, Slashdot Beta fundamentally breaks the classic Slashdot discussion and moderation system. If you haven't seen Slashdot Beta already, open this in a new tab. After seeing that, click here to return to classic Slashdot.

We should boycott stories and only discuss the abomination that is Slashdot Beta until Dice abandons the project.

We should boycott slashdot entirely during the week of Feb 10 to Feb 17 as part of the wider slashcott

Moderators - only spend mod points on comments that discuss Beta Commentors - only discuss Beta http://slashdot.org/recent [slashdot.org] - Vote up the Fuck Beta stories

Keep this up for a few days and we may finally get the PHBs attention. Links of note:

Slashdot has always had disgruntled people participate with it. But a lot of postings by an AC really are worthless to base anything on.

However, if slashdot dies because of this, it won't be because of Dice. It will be because like the dinosaurs, we couldn't adapt.

Fine, here's one more non-AC comment. Beta ought to go to hell. I'll read classic Slashdot or no Slashdot.

Returning to the US would alleviate living under that kind of fear (assuming he recognizes it).

So he could return to the US, where he can be hauled off to a black site, held without trial, or murdered on the president's say-so? I think he's better off in Russia.
