I was REALLY excited about the Crusoe chip when speculation first arose that it would be able to run executables from multiple hardware platforms. Then came the speculation that Crusoe would be aimed at the mobile market (I lose 50% interest right here).
Now that Transmeta has made their announcement, I have no real interest left in it. They've done a nice job of diverting attention to it's power consumption, and that's about it. It's x86 compatible...so what? It's theoretically compatible with lot's of stuff, so pony up. I wouldn't buy one of these JUST because it's not Intel (I don't use PDA stuff, so that's not a big drawing point for me). My MAIN interest was in being able to run applications written for Apple computers, or Sun workstations. And then you have the benchmarks...nice fluff work there. Combining their low power consumption (see, here it is again) with performance doesn't even come CLOSE to giving a fair representation of how it stacks up against a comparably clocked Intel or AMD chip.
And of course, the price on those web "appliances" (aren't you sick of that term?) is still too high for what amounts to a big kids toy. You're not going to get any real work done without a keyboard (in most cases) so basically what you are paying for is a $500 - $1000 Rolodex with some added functionality. (And yes, I know, virtual keyboard or whatever they called it. Did you ever try to do any touch typing on the old Atari 400 membrane keyboard? If so, you know my objection here)
I really think notebooks are going to be where Crusoe blooms, if for no other reason than to not melt your lap while your working with it. But is $329 for the 700MHz really any kind of a bargain?
To all of you that say you won't buy this game because there are no executables on the CD, I say this to you: You are being unbelievably childish. I have been preaching to all my friends that the day is coming, Linux (oh, sorry, that would be x86 Linux for those complaining about this little tidbit) will be the only OS on my drive when the games get here. Well guess what? The games are coming? Did you relinquish Quake 1 and 2 to the unwanted rubbish bin BEFORE id so graciously put out a CD with the Linux executables? Looking at the server stats, I don't think so. So what's different with UT?
Given the fact that they took the TIME to make a port for Linux, you should be gratefull, not petty. EPIC should not be made to suffer because of GT's decision. The files are AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW. Get them. Use them. Enjoy the game. If you punish Epic over this, not only will they not port again, but you are being the most vocal opponent of gaming on Linux. With every comment of "I won't buy it because of blah blah blah" you show the management of the distribution companies that you are an all or nothing group, and therefore all Linux users must be the same. Kiss any future support goodbye.
I bought the game today. I downloaded the files today. I WILL play it on Linux tonight. So sit on your high and mighty moral high ground if you will, but I'll be playing.
God forbid if Microsoft ever releases any software for Linux...
I saw a show on the Discovery channel recently that POSITIVELY showed that penguins are nervous about people when first around them. After only one week of exposure to people, they didn't care about people at all. This was in context to WILD penguins, in their breeding area. These penguins have obviously been around people for quite some time, so PETA really needs to get a clue. Before being slavering mouthed advocates of "saving the animals", find out your facts first. I'd take a stressed out penguin over a stupid PETA, er, I mean person, any day of the week.

Yep, I'm at 98.2%...I think they messed something up pretty bad. This is on a K6-2/350...hmmm....
