What good would a medical doctor be without CAT,X-Ray,IRM, Ultrasound, antibiotics or vaccines?
Go homeopathic?
a new study claims that 98% of the time doctors never run any of those tests but bill for them anyway. They also claim the something like 95% of the medicines they handout are actually inactive or contain sub MED (Minimum Effective Dose)! Bottom line doctors don't need them!
From my observation of the start-up community it seems obvious that 99% of the engineering students should continue to pursue their degrees and work on their dreams of becoming billionaires on the weekend or in their spare time. I am speaking in generalities and could be full of crap! Your mileage will vary!
Most entrepreneurs would not use the product they are working on daily; I know their are exceptions, thanks!
Most of the ideas that people come up with fit into 4 basic categories.
1. The idea is actually a feature that could be implemented in an existing piece of software but it is not worth becoming an actual stand alone business and would probably not bring in any paying business.
2. The idea is actually a really horrible idea and they are either too delusional or have been lied to about how bad it is and they just don't know.
3. The idea can make money; but it's actually an idea that is a business niche and could generate some income but it is not a huge business!
4. The idea is a copycat; unlikely to make money, why go with a copycat when you can go with the original product. Brand inertia is difficult to overcome.
Being part of a start-up is also pretty crappy, Hollywood makes it out to be this big glamorous adventure; The expectation is that you'll spend all your time and excess money into the start-up; it's like being divorced with 3 kids and your ex-wife is a gold digger and drags you back to court every chance she gets to get more money out of you.
Even if you get funded the Angel/VC , seems like the terms are almost interchangeable nowadays, they will want you to still work for free; yeah work for free! I know there's a lot of talk about how much compensation do you take out once your funded but the truth is that it is almost always doesn't happen.
If your lucky enough to make it all the way to the end and sell out to larger business or go public your compensation at the end is usually comparable to those that worked professionally during that same period of time or less.
Even with all that though it still depends on what your long term goals; if you want to get experience in building a business and leveraging finance then it could end up being worth it. If your expectation is a really painful get rich quick scheme I'd advise staying away.
Why does 95+% of the world's high-quality commercial software come out of the US?
This is a good point. I always laugh that people are so naive to think that outsourcing is a good idea.
If 3rd world countries could build great software they would be first world countries, yet...they aren't.
Silicon Valley is not in India or China or BFE....
That doesn't mean that there aren't talented people from those countries in Silicon Valley..Yet they are in Silicon Valley...
My opinion is that outsourcing is mostly a scam, I would never do it in my company.
I have been there and back my brothers.
I am presently coding from home 9 to 5:30. I have learned to manage those who are my bosses and not let their bad decisions affect me.
You have to remember most of these people don't know how to code and are mostly either try to cover their a$$'e$ or trying to get promoted; their mostly ignorant regardless of what they say. Don't educate them, they'll only think they can tell you how to do your job.
The whole thing that has been life changing is to not agree to any craziness like working 24x7 trying to code to unrealistic deadlines. I also don't volunteer or try and please anyone, except maybe someone else on the dev team, at the end of the day, it's just a job. It's not worth being upset and having a heart attack or anything like that.
Remember IT is like being a whore in a whore house, the more you put out the more they'll want you to put out and at the end of the day they'll always dangle the apple in front of you for one thing or another.
I can sympathize with you I am a touch younger than you but the thing I have learned is that you always have to reinvent yourself to stay in demand with your skills. You might think about finding a specialty in NE that is in demand or another job in IT that you can do. You can also always push yourself and say that you'll work for free for 30 days, as an intern that's how confident you are, and if you don't work out they can let you go. I know it's crappy but you have to get your foot in the door somehow.
Why don't you go look up (in no particular order) Syria, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Serbia, Kosovo, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, Congo, and many more and go fuck yourself?
too busy fucking your wife to look those up! Next time your kissing her, let me know how I taste! ASSHOLE!
Yeah please ignore me I am a dumb fuck! Sorry!!!!!!!!!
And how many of those did the US annex or take territory from? Zero (0). None, from those that it was even in.
And how many of my list were annexed or territory stolen from them by you know who? All of those, and more.
Your post is a load of bull. Many happy returns to you.
My post is the truth not bull. Believe what you want.
Yeah the US doesn't really annex territories we just install brutal dictators (puppet governments). Too much implied responsibility to take or annex other countries territories; harder to sleep comfortably at night I guess.

Isn't this what the U.S. did in Grenada?

Thatcher sent a message to Reagan:
This action will be seen as intervention by a Western country in the internal affairs of a small independent nation, however unattractive its regime. I ask you to consider this in the context of our wider East/West relations and of the fact that we will be having in the next few days to present to our Parliament and people the siting of Cruise missiles in this country. I must ask you to think most carefully about these points. I cannot conceal that I am deeply disturbed by your latest communication. You asked for my advice. I have set it out and hope that even at this late stage you will take it into account before events are irrevocable. (The full text remains classified.)
Thanks!!
Aw the dots connect now. I think Sequoia has investment in FB. It's like a money laundering scheme, I can get my investment out of FB by investing and buying another company. Sweet deal!
How does WhatsApp make money? I am not seeing that anywhere? How does this add value to FB? I guess the VC's will at least get their money back out that they invested. That's good, right?
Dear Mark Zuckerberg
Why spend 19 billion on a company that is unlikely to add value to FB and what's more the users are unlikely to want to pay money to use the service?
This just seems like even net neutrality is no upheld and eventually struck down this will create a huge opportunity for some start-up to come in and offer non-throttled fiber; which will shoot Comcast, Verizon, ATT in the foot with their plans to control the internet and reap huge profits.
I know it's a huge investment probably a billion dollars but the cable is owned by communities that they run into; in theory anyone can rent them. Seems like google already has this idea in mind for the future.
I think Comcast, Verizon, ATT are only thinking about trying to keep the status quo which must deter cord cutters and try and stay with their present business models. I always argue with my friends that business is like a living organism; when the climate changes it must evolve aggressively or die; most die. I think Comcast, Verizon, ATT must aggressively either find or create a new business niche to survive; they are presently trying desperately to fight against change. I am sure it is a futile move on their part.
Agreed, the supply chain would be enormous. Just to get started there would be a lot of infrastructure around the earth, that isn't here at the moment!
WOW!!! NASA is living in a dream world. I love the fact that the USA thinks we own the universe at this point! Shouldn't we encourage a gold rush to the moon? If we allow this model I predict that other countries, companies, will mine the moon and we'll have like one company that will be doing exploration of some barren piece of non mine-able area. The USA really needs to get rid of this elitist attitude that we are the best and control everything, because we are falling behind other countries on everything; I think the love of our country is clouding reality. We don't have a monopoly on ideas and other countries have exploited some of our finest values and leveraged them to their benefit. We need to do the same and look at what other countries are doing and take advantage of their experiences.
This country is addicted to free or cheap labor. There are plenty of people that can fill these jobs, the problem is that most of these people are not will to work for the low wages that they want to pay.
Here's your study. Hope this helps!

Its not hard to do; on the documentary 'Sliders' one guy made an antibiotic just out of mouldy bread and saved a civilisation.
Sliders was a documentary?
WTF are you talking about! If you have something to say be specific instead of wah, wah, wah, gurgle, gurgle...
Can't understand you my man, get the cock out of your mouth!

I'd advise you to look into becoming a security consultant. Plenty of jobs and more interesting that the typical IT job. Attend Black Hat and DefCon.

Thank you for pointing this out sir, that I am a childish incoherent troll.
I truly appreciate your wise and kind insight into how I have misinterpreted the article and how my view point is inherently wrong and "troll-ish".
Agreed, the supply chain would be enormous. Just to get started there would be a lot of infrastructure around the earth, that isn't here at the moment!
Please go back to reddit, junior. Adults are trying to have a discussion here.
huh? What part am I wrong about? Be specific please!

It's hard to win an argument when the proof is that it says it in this book. Seems like a pointless debate.
Yeah low pay + warzone is not a great combo..
