It's hard to get, hard to keep, hard to keep up with, hard to save, there are too many things I want and never have enough of it for. I could go on, but I won't.

If there are others of you that feel as I do, stand together and boycott money. If you want to get rid of yours, you can even send it to me and I will go so far as to dispose of it for you. I do a very efficient job of it. Trust me on this.

I've thought about this as well and I'm not debating your position so much as simply posing some questions. Are you concerned that what is now considered to be "illegal" will eventually be considered "bad" as well? I am not religious either and I am concerned that what the so-called "moral majority" says is "wrong", "bad", or "dirty" has laws enacted against it. Frankly, this scares me. Obviously, this blurs the lines between church and state (which are already too blurred for me personally.) With all the recent brouhaha concerning whether we teach creationism or evolution in schools, I think this is a very valid topic for discussion. What do you think?

Another "Mindcraft fiasco"? Microsoft is said to be excellent at marketing, but with the increasing popularity of the Internet as an information source, I think it's tactics are finally being exposed for what they are. Disinformation. Maybe since the Cold War with the Russia is over and the CIA has downsized, Microsoft has hired some of their ex-agents into their "marketing" department. Microsoft is trying to play these games that may have worked against Apple and IBM in the past, but just don't cut it in the Internet age.

  9. Good nor evil... on Upside Editorial Piece on Sun and Open Source · · Score: 1

Sun is merely jumping on a popular bandwagon. True, they could have used a different "term" for their "open-sourcing" of their code. (IMHO) they are looking for a few things:
1.) More money/marketshare. (Open Source is the buzz right now. Their jumping on the bandwagon should not surprise.)
2.) Publicity. (The old addage, "any publicity is good publicity" certainly applies here.)
3.) More eyeballs debugging and creating better code. (Of course the big downside is, Sun mostly benefits from this. However, their consumers will benefit from better code with fewer bugs in the long run.)

It should not be surprising that Sun has done this. They are, in fact, a business. They have bills to pay and families to feed. We may not be happy with Sun's tactics, but it only lends creedance to the fact that Open Source is a better development model. Also, we cannot expect everyone to have the same attitude when it comes to the "gift culture." Some people and/or companies are bound to take advantage of a good thing when they see it.

Entire worlds online could be created virtually and very life-like with many different purposes.

A couple of times in the past I've posted a link to the Linux Superguide , as a story for Slashdot (odd how it never made it to the main board when it is a great resource. Some bias perhaps? ;-) It's an excellent resource for newbies and maybe some of us who aren't. It has Real Player interviews with Linus, Bob Young, of Redhat, and John "Maddog" Hall. The hosts of the show, "The Screensavers" on ZDTV, really tout Linux quite often and occasionally talk negatively about Microsoft. Ooooooo, imagine that! I think that the Ziff Davis properties are just doing a typical job of reporting. Of course certain writers are biased in certain ways and may slant their articles. Who doesn't do this when it comes to something they like? (Even if it may be something the rest of us don't like.) From what I've seen watching a bit of ZDTV, the indivduals are given quite a bit of latitude concerning what they say and/or report. I applaud that.
