Thanks - I tried to read a summary of the whole Thanos deal, but I seem to have missed the whole Death angle. I am woefully underfed in the whole Marvel universe so I only know the movies, I know you miss a lot of depth that way...
Net neutrality is actually a basic manifestation of... a free market
More regulation is a freer market??
HAHAH AH HHA AHA AHA HAHH A HHA. AHHA A HA !
Remember the story is about restoring the FCC rules they lost. Liberals crave power, just as the original social democrat Hitler did. More brownshirts, more power, more violence! It all goes to 11!!
You do you. Or Hitler. Whatever you feel works best for you! Embrace your inner spirit Schutzstaffel and lock down all the internets!
The FCC's repeal sparked an unprecedented political backlash, and we've channeled that internet outrage into real political power
Come on, the House win was because of something the FCC did over a year ago?
Sounds like an awesome way to squander what political power they did gain on a fruitless fight for something almost no voters understand or care about.
By the way, if it was such a clear-cut political victory how did the GOP gain two senate seats over what they had before?
Swift has said that at this point they plan not to introduce source breaking changes again (I think there may be one more they were strongly considering).
As someone who has been using Swift professional since the start, I really do not care though. Partly that is because of migration tools helping, but in large part it's because I'll probably be using Swift for 10 more years at least, so I'd WAY rather have the language be better to work in for a decade or longer, then complain just because I had to spend a few days making what were mostly bulk changes to code.
Even the worst of the conversions (Swift 2 to 3) was no more than a handful of days, and that was only a painful conversion because it required a tiny bit of thought.
I fully support the idea that languages, especially now ones, should be able to alter course until after some time it's apparent what syntax gels best with the language and developers using it.
Both tend to be controlled by rumor, innuendo and flash trading
Yes but the difference is, there is a fundamental base of Bitcoin users that will remain.
A penny stock is mostly not about the company, but about the manipulation. Whereas bitcoin is at times manipulated, but still has value.
A penny stock company could shut down any time, but Bitcoin cannot go away from the choice of any one person or even small group of people...
In I way I find it amusing, that you and others proclaim Bitcoin is heavily manipulated - at the same time making no connection with multiple stories of Bitcoin being dead.
I was waiting for a buying opportunity, guess this is as clear a one as any.
Hey buddy, it's Canada considering the evidence to extradite her - and again it's evidence we could all otherwise see, but she blocked us from seeing it.
Once she gets here she'll go to real court. Try to keep up, I know you are an AC and naturally dull-witted, but really
She can be grateful she's not going to be going to whatever shithole third world court system you live under where they would just shoot her in the head and throw her in a ditch. I know that's how you live but here in civilization we have process.
I'll let you have the last word so you can gibber to yourself.
Sometimes I need good food badly enough that a $5 yogurt that would be $1 elsewhere starts to look acceptable.
Not like it's going to be cheaper anywhere else in the airport.
And if you don't have a water bottle? Any amount is fine thanks because you really don't want to roll the dice getting on a plane these days without your own personal supply of water in case you are stuck on the tarmac for several hours.
Hey I always appreciate corrections but you missed the larger meta-context around the post, as such you are not responding to the message I actually wrote.
I mean even if you had just read the responses you would have seen my Scientific American link on why water appears blue and then you would have probably saved yourself a lot of bother by having an inkling my post was not as it seemed... You did at least save yourself from a witty riposte similar to my response to 10101010 (who similarly misunderstood), so thumbs up there for at least starting your misunderstanding from a better point.
Thanks again though, I appreciate the support! All responses propel me onwards and upwards to ever greater Slashdot posting frequency!
Scan your Amazon code, get in, grab water bottle and snack and you are out.
Though mostly I refill water bottles these days at airports with filling stations, sometimes I forget a bottle or the water at the airport it a bit too odd, then it usually takes a while for everyone in line to get through so I can just buy something simple.
Or just to get a yogurt or banana with no delay would be fantastic.
Amazon may be a giant soul-crushing monolith, but by gum are they becoming an indispensable soul-crushing monolith!
The Internet is mission-critical for everything now. All roads are on the Internet. Whoever controls the Internet, controls the world.
So let me get this straight - what you want to do, is to take the system that works pretty well the way it is now, and place it firmly in the hands of the Trump administration.
Because that is exactly what we are talking about when we say "more regulation" - whoever controls the FCC, then controls the internet via alterations to the regulations.
The best thing the FCC has done recently is to RELINQUISH POWER. Now at least I don't have to worry about what any politicized government will do to the internet, since they hold less sway over it (they can still of course impose fines but it's not like that 30 page hammer they were wielding until the NN regulations were repealed).
I mean, please explain to a very skeptical me how it benefits anyone to hand total control over the internet to Trump. We are all listening...
Thanks for the suggestion, I know the shortcomings of silicon but it was the only thing I had around at the time, and I really needed to get the roof sealed before a trip - it's not a large area so if it has any issues again, I'll just scrape it all off and try what you suggested. I have to say the area has been bone-dry since, but am waiting for the first good snow to really test it.
Though really I need a new roof soon anyway, so it's more like the roofers will have to deal with my short-sighted application.:-)
That's why I was hoping for solar shingles to become a practical choice, to just drop the idea of using real shingles altogether.
I've had to remove a lot of silicone just from metal, and that is a PITA...
This is just a foot or so, applied between painted wood and shingles, so I'm hoping it will mostly peel off. At worst, a bit of repainting in a. small area not visible from anywhere.
Most likely they are not getting hired instead of the more experienced scientists. Both are getting hired.
Read the article again. The whole reason they are considering the non-datasci people is - they literally cannot FIND a "real data scientist" to hire! Google et. al. hire them all out of the market with wages smaller companies cannot afford to match.
Sure they probably have room for both, but since they can't find any they at least can have something by hiring in the person that has a good base, just not specifically in data science....
It's just very unfortunate that most devices only receive security updates to the OS for a small portion of that time
That's a great point, it would be really interesting to know how many Android devices of that vintage are still in use even after such a long period with no manufacturer updates.
I'll bet the number is surprisingly high as there aren't many technical reasons a seven year old phone would not still function, even if the OS it had was rather old... I have an Android phone still from back around that era, may have to fire it up and see what it does when powered up and what works.
To me seven years seems like a good amount of time to keep something supported.
I think Apple still supports the App Store even for older devices (they can download the last version of apps that support the version of iOS they are on), but not entirely sure if that goes all the way back down the full line at this point.
Thanks - I tried to read a summary of the whole Thanos deal, but I seem to have missed the whole Death angle. I am woefully underfed in the whole Marvel universe so I only know the movies, I know you miss a lot of depth that way...

They said he got rid of 50% of all living things.
Well, what the hell did penguins do to deserve that Thanos? I mean they eat a lot of fish but still.
Basically, I don't think he really thought it through. They could have stopped him simply by showing him a picture of penguins.
My prediction for the movie is Thanos has Snapper's Remorse and unwinds everything.
Although, on second thought it is a great point to do another Spiderman reboot, maybe that was the whole point.
Kids, this is why you NEVER go back through source history to look at the first commits for any old project.
Think end of Radiers Of the Lost Ark.
The funny thing about people complaining about Trump at the funeral, they generally wouldn't know the Apostles Creed from Apollo Creed.

That's pretty hilarious, you seriously think that people in countries that "killed it" are no longer using Bitcoin?
What is this sung to the tune of?

Right, I must be fat because I want yogurt instead of chips or some greasy fast food?????? Ahh, AC's of Slashdot - never change.
P.S. The fact you are "hearing" my posts suggest you should seek medical attention. Those voices ain't mine buddy.

Most airports now have free WiFi now and I've not paid data roaming fees in like a decade? Probably only five years, but you know internet time.

From the original article linked from the summary:
As there is a publication ban in effect, we cannot provide any further detail at this time. The ban was sought by Ms. Meng.
There is proof, and SHE blocked us from seeing it so it must be super bad.
Guilty.
Might even be useful as a security camera, if the right app is available.
Hmm, probably terrible insecure but in the right location who cares, good idea...
1) Get a Magic 8-ball.
2) Remove the inside octagonal die.
3) Paint on every surface "All signs point to YES".
4) Re-insert, and shake for answer.
