I think perhaps they would only need to re-animate 1/4 of the scene, but I think they should definitely re-render the entire scene. Re-rendering would deal with all of the reflections, shadows etc. and only cost electrisity and time, not man-hours.
Here's what you want in VOIP games:
If you whisper into the mike, the players far away can't hear you, but the players closeby can.
If you scream into the mike, the players far away can hear you, the players closeby will hold their ears, animals will run off, and loose snow will fall.
If you chant a spell into the mike, you'll cast it.
I'd love to replace all the incandescent lights in my home with white LEDs. Do white LEDs work in regular 120 VAC lightbulb sockets, or do they require special adaptors?
You know what'd be even better than using OLEDs to lower the price? OLEDs to eliminate software licensing! They would keep the price of GBA at $100, but give 3rd parties free reign, letting games become more diverse (no censorship) and lower cost / larger, though perhaps more buggy.
Here is how I believe CG movie production should be done:
1: Someone will write the scrip and draw the storyboard. They may write it in any language they choose.
2: The studio will determine the countries, and thus the languages, into which they will sell the movie. They will then hand the script to native speakers of each of those languages to translate the script, giving them flexibility to allow the translated script to sound natural in the native language.
3: The studio will then create all parts of the movie common to all versions, including acting.
4: The studio will then create all parts of the movie unique to each version, including acting.
5: Release.
WB definitely could have replaced him with CG and no one would have noticed. The money they would've saved by ditching him could have gone to better writers or actors.
When are laptops finally going to be comfortable to use? My ideal laptop is a large, full-sized, split-key keyboard with a widescreen LCD tacked on. It may be too large for an airplane, but it could still be light.
If Apple really wants to save energy, they aught to sell reflective LCDs. If you've played a Game Boy Color (or better, Neo Geo Pocket Color), then you know that reflective, color LCDs do look decent under a bright light. In addition, they use far less energy than even a backlit LCD (it's how Game Boy Advance plays higher-than-SNES-tech games for 20 hours on two AAs) and cost slightly less. If Apple made them an option for use in any of their systems, they could probably get 10 hours out of their notebooks and very low consumption out of their desktops.
Ultimately, OLEDs/LEPs are better than everything, but they're a few years off.
We've been the heroes of war ever since the atomic bomb. Know why? Once we invented it, we got just as much opportunity as the soldiers to die during war!

Review: The CGI made me think it was live action, but the script sucked, the directing sucked, and the acting sucked, so it sucked.
First, I think Star Trek should go on a 10-year sabbatical. The biggest changes and improvements to the series were between TOS and TNG, and after 13 years of very slow change, I think we aught to give the series a break for awhile.
Second, I think any new ST series aught to make blatantly non-human (CG) characters a major part of the show. Now that CG is cheap and that here in the real world we're starting to use genetic engineering to create new kinds of life, all future Treks aught to feature every kind of life form imaginable. Most good sci-fi books feature really awesome ideas (Heinlein's martians, Adams' Hoovulue), and Trek aught to do the same. If that means ditching the old Terra-centric canon, so be it.
Since this article is from MS, I got an idea:
"Repo in the Valley" for the X-Box! Pop real cars from real spendthrifts, like Apple, Sun, and Oracle! Use your WinCE PDA to download new pop jobs, and dodge security systems running on OSX!
All they need is the competitors' license.
Will these be able to perform sharper turns without a pilot? My dad, who is a radar specialist, says that missiles can pull 27Gs because they have no pilot to pass out.
How about flight time, or reflexes in dodging fire and choosing a target?
Joe Consumer was the FIRST to know that MHz didn't matter! It's people who live in the real world who know that what matters is fast internet connections, large monitors, long battery life and ergonimic I/O. For human beings who just use their PCs for e-mail, web, word processing, downloading MP3s and occasionally ripping MP3s, a Pentium 150 is plenty. It's us nerds who keep harping on about GHz, L2 cache, DDR, Rambus, and Altivec.
It seems that over the internet we either get to protect our 1st amendment rights with opt-out or our 4th amendment rights with opt-in. Is there a way to protect both?
The next big thing is broadband. In the short term, broadband will allow for huge downloads, such as movies, that will justify bigger HDs.
Freenet purportedly works best when you give it several gigs of HD space and a mega-fast internet connection.
People have always wanted a better GUI. How about flat touchscreens and voice activation? Organic LEDs will allow for Star Trek-style touchpads with full PC functionality. And as voice recognition improves and is better integrated into the OS, microphone sales should improve.
Streaming movies could make popular cheap PCs with fast internet connections, great monitors and sound systems.
But as for the current uses of PCs, I think they've hit their limit. We already have photorealistic graphics via the Geforce 3. Music is about as good as it can get with MP3, Vorbis, WMA, whatever. I think the future lies with devices and servers. It is from them that we shall see the sort of growth that we enjoyed in the mid 90s.
Imagine playing a close game of UT, and just as you're about to make the winning shot, a Pizza Hut banner starts blocking your shots until you order stuffed-crust!
If that ad makes you lose the match, I'd hate to be the guy wearing a pizza suit trying to lure you into the store!
Can I pay to get rid of the ads? I don't mind ads being there for cheapskates, but I'm willing and able to pay the full price of game for it to be ad free.

The G4 tower is Apple's only air blowing product. All other Macs are fanless, and have reasonably quiet CD/DVD drives, I think.
Assuming you have an unlicensed compiler, can you code for an emulator, and just show Nintendo the ROM for licensing?

Sounds almost as good as Microsoft saying that Linux is communism!
Since notebooks and flatscreens have less space, fewer vents, and in many cases no fan at all, would fungus be less likely to grow in them?
When will large (>= 15 inch) screens hit the market, and at what cost?

With your new Thunderbird that runs at 66 watts, you can make Athlon Fried Chicken.

Why should XP users tolerate Microsoft deciding what's good for them?
