Seriously, what goes through the minds of these people?
You are talking about people who tell a story about a man who actually intended to kill his son as a human sacrifice because the voice in his head told him to. Then they hold up this story as a model for moral behavior.
Obviously STDs are God's punishment for (insert current religious hysteria) so we shouldn't try to thwart His will by vaccinating.
?Not only that, but? something ab?out the font didn'?t r?ender co?rrectly on ?my machine. It kept putting random symbols i?n pl?aces they didn't ?belong in?.?????
People you are a great example of why a religious upbringing forced on innocent children should be considered child abuse....fuck posting anonymously. let the karma burn
We're not freaks about sex; religous idiots are freaks about sex, and we suffer for it.
It's harsh to say it, but when stories like this come up I start thinking that maybe the world would have been better off if the Romans hadn't run out of lions.
I urge every slashdotter who reads this to go out and learn more about this phenomenon. Ethical Treatment for All Youth documents what's happening to kids across America right now in situations like this, and the devastating consequences.
That is the most horrifying website I have ever read. I can only hope that every single person who is involved with running these "treatment centers" is eventually sent to prison. That is completely insane.
Maybe now our direct thermal pollution is insignificant, but what happens when the developing world catches up to the first world in energy consumption? Imagine a million Google data centers in China. If worldwide energy consumption keeps growing, waste heat will become a problem. Unless you use solar energy in one form or another (photoelectric, wind, thermal depolymerization).
Direct heat dumping of mankind is negligible I don't think so. Cities are always a couple degrees hotter than the surrounding countryside. Maybe it only seems negligible because no one has bothered to measure it. Large scale use of geothermal power would affect the temperature of the atmosphere, whether it is less or more than a given energy source depends on the relative efficiencies.
Um, if we were to convert the earth's thermal energy into electricity, wouldn't that lower the temperature? Lower the temperature of the mantle, but raise the temperature of the biosphere. Instead of dumping gases into the atmosphere that increase the fraction of the sun's heat that sticks around we would instead directly inject heat energy into the atmosphere. You know those plants will probably only be 25% efficient when all is said and done. That means 75% of the heat energy taken out of the earth will contribute directly to global warming. Nice job.
How difficult is it to release a video about linux kernel development in a format that is easy to watch by people running linux? At least use flash 7...no need to blow their minds talking about ogg/theora.
Sure it was puppets, and hypocritical of Matt and Trey, but still it's a pretty hilarious movie all the same.
Also, I'd gouge my eyes out before watching Fox News. Or almost any other cable news. It's very sad when a comedian is pretty much the best journalist on TV here.
I guess I should clarify. I know that movie wasn't a documentary, but that whole associative memory cause me to thing of Team America's portrayal of them every time the subject comes up. Similarly because I've heard so many commercials for the Daily Show, every time I hear the phrase on the radio "When news breaks..." I mentally complete it as "... we fix it!"
I don't have great hopes for that. Clooney's new political phase is just going to use this movie to attack the neocons. Great, but then it'll look really stupid in 10 years.
I'm sure he will be smugly patting himself on the back for his incredible social commentary and how he's trying to make a difference. In the meantime, the message of the Diamond Age will be torn to shreds.
I'll never take actors seriously again since I've seen Team America... especially when they get political. They're all members of the Film Actor's Guild.
There's always a chance that someone accidentally choose the wrong line in the selection box. Now that they got all web 2.0 with moderation, if you accidentally click the wrong line there's now way to reverse it.
Not every use of a copyrighted work is fair. BackupHDDVD is just as useful to pirates. or to people who have monitors capable of displaying full resolution HD content, but are not permitted to because of a lack of HDCP
or people who want to watch movies they bought on their mythtv system
or people who like to buy movies and watch them, but don't run windows
If I remember correctly they can only revoke keys for future movies. All movies released when the compromised player was cracked can still be decrypted.

So if you censor adults, you are not a common carrier, but if you censor minors then you are.
Sounds like typical congressman logic.
I seem to remember that once you start filtering content that it opens you up to greater liability DMCA-wise.

as a matter of fact...
yes

USA gets about 20% of its electricity from nuclear power.
You're comparing him to Dvorak?
That's harsh. What did he ever do to you?
Maybe he uses the user agent switcher to work around broken websites, you insensitive... logged in user
So close, and yet so far:

This is an awesome program nonetheless.
True, but that would really blow their minds. Sometimes progress happens in baby-steps.
Talk about timing. It does seem to be x86 only, however. Seems like it will be a while until I can ditch the 32 bit firefox.

I wish I worked somewhere where I could get annoyed at my customers and treat them like that.
