I would really recommend that everyone use the Combo updater, whether you need it or not....
Every time Apple releases an update, there are a bunch of small problems that occur to a minority of users, that are fixed by re-applying the Combo updater.
This has been standard procedure among Mac Techs for a number of years.
If he didn't, then tough luck. A vast majority of stores won't take a return without a reciept, shrinkwrapped or not. I think that's a completely resonable position to take, too.
If he did, then there is no way Apple wouldn't have accepted it, unless the product is marked 'No Returns'. Perhaps your friend had pissed off the employee he was talking to?

that would imply that you could watch it in PPV form when the DVD is released, as long as you order the disk as well....

The only reason this is in the news now, is because douchebag Jack Thompson needs something to issue press releases about, now that Hot Coffee has been taken care of. He tried to take on the Sims 2, but even the press was to smart to fall for that one......

I may be wrong about this, but didn't they stop that MSN promotion before they had initially planned, and ended up just letting people out of their contracts?
So that $585 computer could concievable cost even less....
