  1. morons! think about it... on Should The FCC Be Abolished? · · Score: 2, Interesting

No. At least not like that.

WTF. Seriously. Selling carrier frequencies like land? That only works in theory.

First of all, in radio communications, there's a thing called propogation. Suppose I own 144.000MHz, what happens to me if I "bleed" over into 144.100? Who will tell me to stay in my band? For how far of a distance do I own this 144.000MHz? What's to stop me from bumping up my power from a few watts to 5kW and blasting out my corner of the state?

Who will police amateur radio? Give/Restrict access? Or will the airwaves become like CB became, full of know-nothings that just bought the right equipment? Will companies just have to keep stepping up their power to drown out RFI?

Obviously this man has done very little with radio, and is just the policical columnist for CNet.
I applaud the idea to question the current structure of hte FCC, but bad way to go about trying to fix it.

I'm sure the deal with SCO would have never gone down had Greg still been there. EV1Servers was run by Sizemore with a hands-off, "you know what you're doing" approach from the administration. They trusted Greg and let him steer the web-hosting department's operations from a technically sound position.
After Greg's death, I'm sure Marsh thought he should muttle in EV1Servers affairs and try to be a hero. Too bad he hasn't a clue about the web-hosting business or how Greg managed things.

    With freedom comes responsibility...
With Freedom of Speech comes the responsibility of knowing what NOT to say.

Saying that one wishes death on the president is against the law. So you're not free to say just anything.
In a time of war if you start propogating sensative information, you will be charged with treason and executed. So you're not free to tell people what you want.

You are free within limits. Its like, you're free to drive as fast as you want, just not over a certain limit. You're free to go where you want, so long as you do not trespass. You're free to do what you want, so long as you do not infringe on other people's rights and such.

The whole freedom of speech thing comes becomes paradoxical when you speak out against the US as a whole. I'm all for speaking out against parts of our government, but when you say "The US (as a whole) sucks! and I'm free to say that if I want." Aren't you denouncing the country that gives you such a right? How can it suck then? Sure, you're free to disagree with certain aspects. But when you burn the US flag, aren't you then saying that you reject the US and its rights???
Oh you aren't? So obviously there is something about this country that you find pleasing...

The whole thing about freedom comes back to, you're free to do what you want, as long as you dont cross the line. By aiding those who wish harm on the US, that's breaking the law.

  11. Re:Well on Working with ADHD? · · Score: 2, Informative

yeah - i've found that i think so quickly, what seems like a lack of attention is my mind jumping from topic to topic and relating ideas that other might take a minute to catch up with to (you might have to explain your train-of-thought).
ADHD isn't a disorder, it's more of a type of personality, you might notice that computers (assuming you're a geek) or anything you enjoy can hold you attention with no problem. It's just the other stuff - stuff not of your choosing, may seem to bore you. In this boredom, you get "off-topic" and you begin to think about other topics.

I also agree, lots of sugar probably won't help your hyperactivity. Caffine tho, might. Since it acts as a mild-stimulant. Which is what Ritalin and Dexedrine are - stimulants. They "narrow" your focus, and allow you to concentrate.

  12. my experience on Working with ADHD? · · Score: 1

I did some reading and found that ADHD is linked to a lack of magnesium. So I looked in a nutrition guide to find some natural sources of magnesium (and what to avoid). I came to find out that rice and beans/grains will refresh your Mg. Vitamin D, like that of Vit.D milk, will 'wash away' some of your Mg. So, I avoid milk in the mornings, and drink a glass at night. I also tried Magnesium tablets for a while, this also seemed to help.
was it placebo? ...possibly. But those are my findings. I also have taken 5HTP, I didnt notice much affect - that and the cost of 5HTP compared to Mg tablets makes Mg tabs more acceptable.

So, I say look into your diet, it will take some time and hard-work to stay focused, but try to make your diet help you.
On the clinical side, I used to take Dexedrine, it definately helps, but that is also due to how potent it is. I didn't care for Ritalin much as a child, and dexedrine seems more 'controllable', with the side-effects being almost complete loss of appetite. So if you can work around that, you might ask your Dr. about Dexedrine.

...just remember there's no miracle drug to "fix" the issue, you have to try to stay focused, all of these aids are just that, aids, there to help you achieve a desired result.

    hope that helps!
