One thing I've noticed is that many Elon Musk haters are "losers." I don't mean the popular/insulting version of the word, but rather the basic noun - loser, one who loses.
I've had quite a few debates with haters, and all of the ones I spoke to had some sad story about stock shorts that didn't work out, relatives that lost their jobs on the oil rigs, or friends who owned automotive garages. No amount of "times change" really helped.
I honestly kinda feel sorry for people that really, really want the world to stop turning.:(
Can you explain what you mean by that statement? Vintage Apple hardware is available all over eBay, and plenty of other stores. You can find used and new-old-stock Apple hardware on Kijiji, Craigslist, etc.
This, right here, is what the Cyanogenmod team could have used before they got crushed.
There's a hell of an opportunity for one of Google's competitors (Amazon, perhaps?) to jam their foot in the very-slightly-opened door, and kick like hell.
I don't know if it's my lack of reading comprehension or failing vision, but I couldn't find where OP indicated that he believed lithium batteries were constructed purely of lithium. If you don't mind, can you quote where he did so?
what's obvious to you, isn't obvious to others. And who knows where you live. It just goes to show you how frightened you are of the ICE. Where I live, I need to travel 1000km in the middle of the winter. There's no pullover to spend an hour or eight to charge a battery. And when shit happens, its a whole lot easier to bring a jerry can of fuel, than a 500kg battery. EV's don't solve all the problems. They are an alternative, but the takeaway is that it isn't ALL obvious!
So, yours is an extremely niche use case. About 90% of drivers don't fall into your category.
While electrics/hybrids make little sense for you, they are an obvious solution to the majority of drivers in North America.
The battery drops to 70% capacity after as few as 500 charging cycles.
Ah, you're thinking of Lithium Manganese Oxide (LMO) batteries, commonly used in laptops, cell phones, etc.
Luckily, electric vehicles use a different chemistry - Lithium Iron Phosphate. While not as energy or power dense as LMO, they're far more stable, and with proper battery management (which is on all electric vehicles) lose closer to 10% over many thousands of cycles. If you've ever used a quality modern cordless tool (Dewalt, Milwaukee, etc), they use similar technology.
No, because they're not the same at all. Self-driving cars are in many respects attractive nuisances. If you don't think they will be tempting targets for malicious interference (e.g., spray-paint cameras or laser pointers aimed at cameras), then you haven't thought about it enough.
So the good news is that we already have laws to correct the problem. Just as we jail everyone who throws a brick off an overpass, we can jail everyone who maliciously interferes with the operation of an automated vehicle.

Recognize that people overwhelmingly agree with me (modded +5 within 30 minutes) and people overwhelmingly disagree with you (modded -1 within a few hours).
It might be time to reevaluate your perspective on life.
I used the word "delicious" ironically. If you're not a native English speaker, I apologize. I didn't mean to mislead you.
I think it's time we need to start pushing to add the words "privacy" and "encryption" our our various countries' constitutions/charters so that we can put this issue to rest for good.
A lot of people don't realize that Saudi Arabia has over 50 degrees of celsius per day!
And when your trucks move at a rate of 500,000km, it can be hard to cover enough distance. Plus, consider that the trucks have 300L fuel tanks, and produce over 1,000 horsepower per hour. That's a lot of something!
Hey man,... I don't disagree. We don't really deserve to spread our seed throughout the galaxy.
But I think it is our responsibility. If we are the Universe's only life, it's our burden to make sure our descendents have the opportunity to make better choices than we have so far.
So, Elon Musk kinda is SpaceX. He kinda is Tesla. Without him, they would not be pushing for the absurdly impossible goals they routinely acheive, especially not getting to Mars.
On the one side, we have someone who could be humanity's best hope for escaping extinction.
On the other side, we have a bunch of rich assholes trying gambling that he'll fail, and expecting to pull some money out of thin air if they're right.
Part of me wants Elon to fail. We don't really deserve to spread our seed throughout the galaxy.
The single most important feature of a smartwatch is voice recognition. When you say "ok, Google," it needs to react immediately, every single time, without failing, ever. When you dictate something, it needs to react immediately, with 100% accuracy, always. Otherwise, it's not a particularly useful device.
I used to keep Google Finance open on a tab or two every day, all day. The "redesign" was the first thing that has steered me to a Yahoo product in 10 years.
Yahoo Finance is actually surprisingly good. In the end, hopefully Google's "UX designers" will cost them a fortune and force a shake-up of the industry.

you can't buy vintage Apple hardware anywhere.

Demanding they cease certain activities is one thing, but demanding that they give away their product for free ... that would be.. unprecidented.
Man, gettin' old sucks. ;(

the engine hasn't required any work in 300K miles
You're lying. Full stop.

Cervical cancer is to the body what religion is to the mind. :(
He will not save humanity with the type of chemical rockets his company builds. those will not go to Mars.
See, this is a perfect example of why Musk is Tesla and SpaceX.
Unlike most CEOs, he doesn't care if something is impossible. He does it anyway.
Physics is physics, dude. The math checks out. Chemical rockets suck, but will work just fine.
Christ. You techo-fanboys are insane.

I guess .. sorta kinda.
It was sorta more one of those stepping-back-10,000-lightyears perspective thingies.

Wouldn't it be delicious if this derailed humanity's path to the stars long enough that we didn't make it as a species?
I honestly can't think of a worse group of folks than financial lawyers, or a better group of people than SpaceX.
Took the words out of my mouth.
I'm still running a Note 3. The LG V20 sorta comes close, but every other new phone on the market is objectively worse. :(
We are not idiots, Samsung. Stop gluing wear items such as batteries into our phones.
Totally confused. Can you elaborate?
