As usual, the EU will find some way to squeeze Microsoft through frivolous anti-trust charges in order to pay the tax deficit from Google, Amazon, Apple and other tax dodgers. Unlike those companies Microsoft actually pays it's taxes.
They should implement the same functionality in a Windows 8 (Windows Store) app. Furthermore, if the user clicks a link to a youtube video in an email or app the OS should launch the app instead of the browser. Now that would be awesome.
It's useless!!!! If they bring back the Start button that will the very first thing I disable. If they don't let me disable it I will get (or write) an app that hides it. I can't stand the Start button and anyone who insists they need it has probably never actually used Windows 8.
Microsoft finally becomes an innovator and a leader in creating beautiful, intuitive, clean interfaces and the luddites pull us back to 1995. Just stick with Windows 7 if you can't adjust to the new world. If they end up adding the Start button it will be the first thing I disable. It's ugly, clunky, takes up space and is totally useless..
Boo hoo. Then just use Windows 7. I will never go back to Windows 7. Windows 8 has been a HUGE improvement for my daily workflow. I LOVE the ability to keep all my open IDE's and utilities running on the desktop, then switch over to run a quick app or game, then return to the desktop where I left everything. It finally brings the concept of "multiple desktops" to the Windows ecosystem.
Really? So this new figure is counting every device that runs any flavor of Windows? That obviously includes Xbox, Windows Phone, tablets, desktops, laptops and Netduino. But it also includes home appliances, cash registers, industrial machinery and millions of other devices that runs Windows Embedded, CE, Compact or one of its many other SKUs. No, I don't think Apple will be overtaking Microsoft any time soon.
It's not easy to detect fingers at a distance with that type of resolution. I hear the Kinect 2 will have a higher resolution (made possibly by the greater bandwidth of USB 3.0) and lower latency. Kinect continues to rock!
People can disagree about political issues and we don't have to immediately assume they hate us or some faction of the population. I don't think smoking is good for you but I don't hate smokers. I prefer Windows and Linux to Mac but I don't hate Mac or Mac users.
I'd much rather see which tabs are taking CPU and other resources instead of audio. Sometimes I have to kill all my tabs one at a time to figure out which one was running some runaway JavaScript.
Why wasn't this mentioned in the story? Amazon has had several very high profile glitches in S3 and EC2 in the last few months. One of them recently brought down Netflix.
This is pretty epic! I can't wait to get my hands on it. I just hope Microsoft adds Kinect support to the WinRT SDK so Modern (Metro) Apps can use it and hardware manufacturers can build it into tablets and PCs.
I can't wait to see what Nokia does with graphene. They have proven that they are willing to use new materials and manufacturing techniques in their hardware to date.
It's the same amount of space that Windows boxes always have to give up. Why would the Surface pro be any different? People who buy the Pro will almost certainly opt for the larger drive. Why the alarmist reaction?
I can't wait for Windows 8.1 but I am not a fan of the old Start button. Thank goodness they aren't bringing back the whole Start menu. Yuck!
We mostly used embedded Windows on the Beagle XM.
This isn't news. No user will notice a 5% improvement in load times. We'd much rather have a smaller memory footprint.

The "Metro" live tiles are small animated cards. They even flip and float like real cards when you interact with them.

Organizations get pretty desperate to cut costs but when they do things like this they end up spending WAY more, both in time and in money.

Saves on IT costs.

That's pretty amazing!! I wonder what else we can blame on Windows 8. Maybe the sequester!

IE11 is getting pretty awesome. I'm not a fan of WebGL but I do want my browser to support as many open standards as possible.

Mac is just a stop along the way.

Who wants to be seen wearing an iWatch? Ewww!
It's funny how the third place Windows Phone, the Samsung Ativ S, is the exact same hardware as the very best Android Phone, the Galaxy S II
With competitors like Nokia and HTC and even Samsung (the least of the three), how could LG compete? Their hardware was always fourth place.
