Take a look at the netcraft link. The linux box is not using any of the same IP's that microsofts server had used in the past. It is a completly different block. That means that this isn't from a reassignment of the IP. This is a result of the DNS record changing to point to a different system.
Well just an observation.
The one part of the RFID protocol that I don't know is weither all tags attached to boxes of whole wheat cheerios will respond with the same number. If they do, they can not provide a unique number to track a person. They can only tell that the signal coming back is from an RFID tag from a box of cheerios.
Sorry to tell you this, but even if they are as general as just identifing a Box of Ceral, or a Blue Hat, White Gap Shirt, Old Navy Carpentar Jeans, and Hanes briefs. The Combination of these seemingly generic ID come together to create a very unique Indentifier.
What are the chances that a whole lot of people are goign to be wearign the same combination of RFIDs.
Does anyone remember back a few weeks to this post? Basically by collecting a whole lot of public available information, This guys guy created a great tool. The MATRIX is such a tool, only instead of mapping out Fiberoptic cables, It maps out every details about every ones private lives.
The point i am trying to make is that when the data is scatterd between various sources, It is much more difficult for that data to be abused. As this guys masters thesis could be used by terrorists to attack our national infrastructure, the MATRIX could easily be abused to harm each an individual.
I know you said you dont want one geard toward engineering, however in my opinion the TI-83 does everything you need. It is in my opinion TI's best. It has great functionality with out the ugly interface of the TI-92. And acording to an add from office depot you can get it in multiple colors now. (I thought it sounded studip too.)
Doesn't your friend get stuck with the bill eventually? I mean last time i checked, Bandwith isnt cheap, even if you are colocating. If i read the topic correctly, this guy wants to download somethign like 10GB a month. Might as well just go with one of the services mentioned in other posts.
For example start with somethign simple like Hangman, then move to somethign a little more difficult like the towers of hannoi (spelling?) I also had a lot of fun programming the game of monopoly in my introductory programming class. So many diffrent objects to create!
I was reading through the CTPA and came across this interesting quote:
"
A governmental entity may obtain personally identifiable
information concerning a cable subscriber pursuant to a court order
only if, in the court proceeding relevant to such court order -
(1) such entity offers clear and convincing evidence that the
subject of the information is reasonably suspected of engaging in
criminal activity and that the information sought would be
material evidence in the case; and
(2) the subject of the information is afforded the opportunity
to appear and contest such entity's claim."
So they have proof that every subscriber is useing it for illigal activity?
Also i think that this means we might see a million geek march up to this courthouse, as we are all entitled appear in court and contest the records collected and all allegations against us.
It doesn't matter that the data doesn't say Mr. Smith watched such and such. The thought that the entertainment industry will have access to this data implies that they will use it against the viewers. Incredible.
It may not directly say the users name, however acording to the article, all the data will be associated with a unique identifer for each viewer. I dont think it would be that difficult to find the way back to the origional user
The idea that a judge would order this is just sickening.
You are incorrect sir. There is a thriving community of developers that have been writing replacement shells for the microsoft operating systems for years. LiteStep, Outsider, revel to name a few. Check out Shell City They have lots of information on it.
Dont be so quick do dismiss alternate shells. I have been using litestep for a while and it is amazing. You have complete control over every aspect of your desktop.
If i install Yellowdog linux on a mac, would i be able to run windows applications inside wine? If so then you could have linux, OSX, and the windows of your choince running at the same time. Is this possible? will it work?
I am currently a sophomore in a 5 year dual degree program. Hopefully at it's compleltion i will have both a bachelors and a masters degree in computer engineering. My question is do employers look down on these 5 year programs? Would it be advantageous for me to just do the normal 4 years and then head out to another university for a masters degree? Just curious... andy responce would be appreciated.
i am sorry to say but this is not new at all! I remember seeing planes fly across my screen in an advertisment for pearl harbor about a year ago on weather.com So this is definitly not new at all.
I think you are completly wrong!!!! I mean there is a lot of great talent on mp3.com. There are many great artist out there just starting out. My girlfriend being one of them. So if like listening to good music that might jsut scare you check out Naomi Hall @ mp3.com. So there, that proves you wrong in your statement of mp3.com being full of Crapola. And the rest of your argument just makes me laugh...
:o)
After that weekend i can barely move... I fell asleep in most my casses today... well anyway I think overall it was a great competition this year, my team Cordzillia team 37 came in 20th place. We were knocked out of the first round of the curie division finals, but man what a ride. I jsut want to say to all those out there who we were allied with, if we had a highschoring match or not, thanx for doing your part in making that great weekend possible!!! If anyone wants to exchange some stories about this weekend e-mail me... Later!!!
From reading some of your responces to this article i get the feeling you dont truely understand what FIRST is. It mean "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology." The competition is not about robots killing eachother, but about Team work and Graceous(sp?) Professionalism.
It is a great program that gives students a real taste of what engineering has to offer. I believe it has been a great success.
I am a member of team 37, Cordzilla. We received 2nd place at the Kenedy Space Center Regionals. We also recieved an award for sportsmanship. You see Gracous Professionalism is rewarded. We helped other teams in many cases; We donated some wheels to one, Gave our spare grippers to team who needed it, and i myself even programmed for 3 other teams.
Well you are all probably bored of hearing about how my team did, but maybe this article will interest some of you to atted the National competition in Disney World.
Ohhh and this years game is not the first to be streamed on the net, as i know for a fact this was done last year and all the other regionals this year as well...
I have been researching this possibility for my school as well, So far the best soloution i see for quickly setting up a beowolf cluster in a highschool computerlab, where the computers still must be used on windows 98, would be to create a class set of bootable beowolf cd's.
Is there a project already in the works for a cd bootable beowolf distribution? Any that are able to read FAT32 or even better NTFS. Pop in the cd reboot, and bam you have a beowolf node, useing a folder in the windows partition to store data.
If anyone knows of something like this that is available, please give me a hollar, It would be a great help!
Two things i forgot to mention, the robots you build for US first are controlled by the basic stamp 2sx. And of course programmed in parallax basic. Also i would like to point out the first post status of my last message:o) -windchill

So Are all RFID's Unique? Or is the ID more generic to the product.
Is the number unique to my new pair of shoes, or is the number the same for all size 12 brown hush puppies.

All that i want for the holidays is college tuition.

Didnt we discuss this quite recently? Build your own Mini-Computer(slashdot)...
It just seems we are talking about this a lot lately.

How does this affect handspring? Is Xerox's claim towards the implementation in the OS or the general input method?
