  1. Re:Creation of normal matter on Dark Matter Measurements · · Score: 1

Or perhaps the universe was reduced to nothing by a black hole, then that very last particle to get pulled in released all the matter back out.... Here we go again.....

  2. Re:The reason is that Galaxies are screwed up on Dark Matter Measurements · · Score: 1

There is speculation that galaxies may be powered by massive black holes. Now it is hard to say how massive a black hole is when the singularity is perhaps the size of an elementary particle. But these black holes may have enough gravitational pull to bind millions or billions of starts together to form what we know as galaxies.

  3. Re:Uhhhh on Dark Matter Measurements · · Score: 1

I agree there are many studies in progress to determine the composition of the universe, if the big bang is true the universe began at a singularity of infinite density and mass, then BANG!, the universe as we know it. But where did all the rest of the matter go. I read somewhere that visible matter only made up something like 1-3% of the universe. Dark Matter may be an answer for all things unanswered.

For those of you who haven't read anything by Sagan or Hawking, pick it up, that will blow your hair back.....

While I was in the DoD, I constructed a small office LAN out of some old Alpha 500's that were lying around, and loaded Suse 6.4 on them. I was getting flak from the in house Compaq/DEC guys that said that you couldn't load Linux on these machines because of the BIOS, but after about a week we had 6 machines running with everything the desktop workstations had, and at no extra cost to the MAN....

  6. Some .mil info on Which Government Agencies are *nix-Friendly? · · Score: 1

At my last assignment we used a very good assortment of hardware including, an Alpha Open VMS system, which was primarily for development, two Sun Solaris servers that were going to take over the workload of the Alpha server once all the operational code was transitioned over. And of course there was the Windoze server, that controlled all email and web services. Kind of a Franken-office if ya ask me....

I am quite concerned myself, with just going to inactive reserve from active military duty, what is Bush going to do, he has a lot of pressure from the American public to just rush in and start bombing people. The annoncement was made to call up some 200K reservist to active duty to perpare for an assault.... Now I'm just waiting for the phone to ring...

Yes you are correct Charlie is an attack has occurred and more is expected. But with Colorado Springs being a good terrorist target with NORAD and Space Command headquarters, all bases here are in high state of security.

All bases in the Colorado Springs area including NORAD, and US Space Command are on Threatcon Charlie, not the highest state of alert, but close, all bases have been closed to the public, this is going to get ugly. Where the hell is President Bush? Is there going to be a war?
