I used to do support for a satellite system at Schriever Air Force Base. Since all the systems were housed inside sealed 'mods', and the systems themselves where all stand alone, with no circuits to the internet or even siprnet. They take security there very seriously, one time I had three failed access attempts to the 'mod' I was trying to gain access to, and armed guards came around the corner at double time, and put me against the wall like a common criminal. Now thats securtiy.
While I was in the military CLEP and DANTES tests were free to take, but most colleges won't allow you to use more the 30 credit hours of CLEPed tests. They really want to get you into the classroom so they can start milking the money out of you
But Lindows is an operating system. Its niche is that it runs both Linux and Windows applications. Lindows and Windows are in the same market, but Microsoft doesn't see, that this will boost the knowledge of people who still don't know that there are alternatives to Windows.
I suppose with the economy in its current state, struggling companies are forced to sue on possible infringement cases to earn some kind of revenue. And to believe I just got a Visor Deluxe two weeks ago, now its going to be a paperweight.
Does anyone have any screenshots for Lindows? Their website is very WinXP looking. Have they actually sold a Preview Release yet? Who wants to spend $99 for beta software.
Actually WinFree would be a great name, hire someone with the name WinFree, make them chairmen or CEO, name it after them. I can see the slogan now "All the decent applications for Windows, without the Windows." HA
Isn't PC Mag owned by the Ziff Davis Group(ZDNet)? Which I think is an AOL Time Warner company. And what OS does AOL run on. SO until someone can port AOL to Linux.........
Agreed, I just got done reading an article Rob did for Wired magazine a year or two ago, just after Andover had their IPO,he gets a lot of crap from people, but if it wasn't for CmdrTaco, Hemos, and CowboyNeal their wouldn't be a Slashdot, then where would the trolls go...... To see LoTR where else.
I think this will end up being flamebait but, what if this is all just anti-Microsoft propaganda to scare people into using Linux, Here use the new and improved Al Qaeda Distro, works like Debian but with a few added "features".
Well I'm glad that they decided to go with the some sort of high-speed transfer, the Archos 6000 skips pretty bad when playing through a playlist, when hooked dirctly to the computer, now stand-alone with headphones its OK, but Firewire and USB 2.0 will sweeten the deal...
I'm not part of the AT&T crew but, I got switched over to Adelphia PowerLink this morning at about one, I went over to DSLreports to do the speed test, it seemed even better then before, but now, I am almost ready to go out and get a new modem, and dial-up account, I was downloading at 840bps. I hope these are just growing pains, I wonder how much Qwest DSL is?
What are they going to do, write a virus that will infect all operating systems when the host file is recieved. I believe that would be quite a task. If someone was that paranoid about security they would take every necessary step to ensure that they were not snooped on. Not all criminals are stupid.
I have been using @Home here in the Colorado Springs Area for close to a year now, and my connection rarely ever falls under 1.5Mb, in the early mornings and late at night I get close to 2.5 or 3Mb. Plus my service has only been down twice in that whole time. Never going back to dialup, I would sell my kidney's before that day comes.
And when you have a 500+ comment page in nested view it still takes a while to view on dialup, I have been there. But never again, I want instant gratification.
Unfortunatley thats how a lot of people programm, but thats not how you should be doing it. If anyone read the post two days ago about scheduling projects, there were some good comments made about code peer reviews, and having a good outline so you don't spend hours typing in print statements to find the bug. The point is if you follow a well defined process there will be less bugs for you to go tracking after no matter how you write the code, IDE, text editor....
There was a program that I went through called Personal Software Process, that was taught by someone at Carnegie Mellon University, in the Software Engineering Institute division. He taught us that by keeping track of certian factors including the LOC (lines of code) you can write an hour, peer review times, and a host of others that schedules can be very accurate, but it is all part of a very well defined process.

Isn't this the same sort of thing from the movie Johnny Mnemonic. Of course they had Jones the psychic dolphin, to hack his brain.

Or Lindoze would be good also.

Actually I think Citigroup is much larger then Microsoft, Oracle, Sun combined. But thats in the US, not the world.
Well maybe they can name it MicroLinux or Linuxsoft, maybe M$ would like those more.

Weren't the Nazgul the flying beasts the Ringwraiths rode after their horses where destroyed at the ford at Rivendell?
A Tom Bombadil scene would be interesting, remember the ring had no effect on him, he was very old perhaps older then the Ents.
Informative, come one, tell me this is a troll. Saruman is no hobbit, this is just a cheap, Star Wars "Luke I am your father" plug.

Then they will get you for distributing copyrighted material.
You: But Judge they were only backups!!
Judge: 100 years for every MP3 that comes out to.....(whispering'carry the two....') LONGER THEN YOU WILL LIVE..... Hahahahahaha
