    Government is no good at monitoring private sector businesses and this has been proven time and time again.

    Actually, the American regulatory departments (EPA, FCC, etc) have a long history of great work and have been saving American lives for decades (the Thalidomide case comes to mind).
    but...
    Polemics soon come into play to stop regulatory reforms at the congressional level... or higher.
    Don't blame the Civil Servants who work hard to protect their neighbors and make the community of the USA a better place. If the political will existed to actually make regulatory changes LAW, then something would get done. I'm just asking you to aim your "gun" a little higher. ;)

    Too bad Monsanto, R.Reagan, the Bushs', etc. are all more interested in making sure people eat American genetic food and not grow their own. World Market domination might sound like an X-File... but it's just greed, plain and simple.

    Well well. I found a couple of articles about my old nemesis, Monsanto. A company that is responsible for thousands of deaths over the years. They love to kill, those Monsanto fuckers. They especially like killing babies. Think I'm crazy? Grow up and read the history kids...

    I have this wonderful technology!!!
    It's completely portable, I can take notes with it, the power NEVER fails, it'll last for decades, and I can access information in it in seconds.
    It's called a book !!!
    Selling schools technology is like selling little Red Riding Hood to the wolf. What are you gonna tell your kids?

    "Sorry, we spent all the money on this Palm, no shakespeare or soccer for you kid".
    Computers don't belong in schools.

    I would say it's within the Slashdot circle of interest once the Scientology geniuses decided to attack servers around the world because they were the source of their "secret bible" being shown on the Internet. Remember, the Scientology Nazis only let you read the "secret bible" once you've given them your soul and about $50,000US.

    So you're being cheated by the priceing and privateer-like actions of distributers and music moguls who exploit music and music lovers. Well DUH!

    But it's still a crime to copy (even from one computer to another) a book, song, or any copyrighted material. Period. That's the LAW.

    Now, it may not be fair, but that's the capitalist, economic, WTO, free trade, multi-national world that all these morons have created. That is, this isn't some new attack on technology or anything, it' the regular day to day defence of their markets. This is regular business. Nothing new, nothing strange. This is the very reason for the USA to exist and it's the plan to continue successfully in the future.
    Now, you say it's immoral? I wonder if you fully realize that your statement is a complete rejection of capitalism in itself and the western economic anti-tariff push into the new millenium?

    Tell me the truth... was that you with pepper spray on their cloths in Seattle a while ago? ;)

    You know, the moon astronauts left a reflector on the moon. Anyone can get the co-ordinance from NASA and shoot a laser up there to check the distance between the earth and the moon.

    Is that proof enough for ya?

    But I digress. The real problem here is, well, I can't believe you Yanks would let anyone, let alone a national network like FOX, broadcast such lies regarding the greatest accomplishment of the United States of America.

    I mean, one of the few times that not just a nation, but an entire world came together when a human being left the earth and stood on another island in the stars. He looked back and blotted out the Earth with his thumb.

    Human kind would never be the same again.

    Until about 30 years later when we all forget about it, don't care, and we crassly sell cheap cable TV shows debunking one of the few times in our horrible war torn history when humans stopped slaughtering each other for a few months.

    Thanks FOX executives. I hope a meteor falls on your heads.

  15. Groovy ST! on New 'Star Trek' Series Set For Fall · · Score: 1


    Recently, I've gotten into watching the original Star Trek on SPACE here in Toronto. These are remastered, full shows. Whole scenes missing since they were hacked off to make commercial room have returned. To me, it's a whole new Star Trek.

    I looove the designs! The funky colours, the costumes, the sets, the hair! It stands up to the current shows without a problem. In fact, I find the old show to be incredably original and smart. It's hard to believe sometimes that I'm watching a sci-fi show made in 1965!!!

    I hope the new show is as thoughtful, and funky as Star Trek has been in the past.

    Now imagine if only Bill Gates owned your cure. Imagine again that, though there is a cheaper product created in a university lab and is free to all (the Linux/Windoze metaphor still... keep up!) you can't get it because... well... the hospital only uses Gates brand cures.

    I don't mean to pick on ya kiddo, but you are REALLY naive.

    Remember, laws have been changed in order to pave the way for COMMERCIAL applications of genetic research. The message is clear... death is a growth business.

    Sure, proof that all humans came out of Africa is nice (knowing we're far more like plants - not as much). Tends to stop short some of the silly racial arguments that have been flying around throughout the last few decades. But the real issue is clear...

    The genetic map is publicly available thanks to the great publicly funded research science mentioned in these posts. But there isn't just one... there is another from the company Celera.
    Celera claims their map is BETTER than the public one. That's why they charge so much and that's why you will be paying.

    Honest! This is from statements from Celera given to the Canadian press this morning.

    Kinda sounds like Linux and Windoze don't it? ;p

    The media, always more concerned with the latest "Survivor" show, fails once again to inform the American public (and we Canucks who pay attention) about the power shift in outer space.

    No longer is peaceful NASA to be the first agency to populate outer space... now, the American Military will. Yiokes!


    Not to be off topic, but Space Command, who has been given the power in outer space, is a big cyber war outfit too. Remember this?

    Heeey - I remember that TV program. After school (not very) special? Heeheh, yea, I'm that old.

    I agree though, a simple story can make a complicated point quite clear (bad acting, sure, but obviously the writing was spot on).

    Whether we call it "the Wave" or the "new economy", fascistic morals will always rise to the scummy surface.
    As I bob up and down on the waves I can't help but wonder who all these IT Professionals are here with me. ;)
