Let's hope that the US never "achieve(s) democracy." Democracy is mob rule. Our Founding Fathers had the forethought to create a Republic to protect us from tyrants who would fool the public into surrendering their freedom. Oh, wait. We have Obama.
Their horrid business model that started in the early '80s when every corner store, supermarket and chains rented VHS tapes was not only overdue to be marked for death, but also caused wasted resources (driving to Blockbuster to rent, then driving back to return), was usurious (arbitrary, unjust and possibly illegal "late fees") plus they had a shitty selection, anyway with no adult section.
Good riddance..
Now reduced to hosting corporate elite crapware traveling circus for Brin and Page's toys. Thanks to SorObama & Co. the great divide is accelerating with a politboro elite and the prole rabble. Between are government employees and petty bureaucrats.
Oh, joy!
An up-and-coming, self-righteous, loved and respected (pretty much universally except by its indigenous population) economic dynamo with its first Olympics affirming her new stature.
Now they just need to solve their local soccer-match dismemberment frenzies, child trafficking and rampant kidnappings of even middle-class targets and it'll be a regular Portuguese-speaking Mayfield from "Leave It To Beaver"
"As a former Marine, I have some experience with hand grenades, and I can assure you that every case of grenades comes with an entire booklet of warnings, written in dense legalese"
That a flat-out lie. Total fabrication. There's no "legalese" or booklet, otherwise.
An Armed Forces member is governed under martial law the second he or she swears the oath. Your Constitutional rights are suspended until you have completed your six year obligation and receive your formal discharge at that time.
People under martial law cannot sue the government which hold said law over them.
Therefore, 'legalese" booklets do not exist since there is absolutely no liability for the contractor to the service member.
This concept is spelled out early and often in the service member's career and is common knowledge to anyone who has served.
Grenades, like any other ordnance, comes in marked containers and each grenade's description (smoke, frag, etc.) and military nomenclature is printed on the individual grenade. There are no fucking "booklets,"
All of these garbage political/social projects to supposedly increase American kids' achievement in science are just that: feel good garbage.
Lowering standards only goes so far until real work and real achievement are required.
I live in Simi Valley, CA and notice the constant launchings of the various plane and rocket entities that operate out of the high desert in Lancaster, about 60 miles north. Over the last couple of days I've been noticing aircraft leaving vapor trails very high, at very high speed (much faster and higher than commercial craft) and leaving at intervals, most probably the bombers coming out of Edwards AFB located near Lancaster.
more idiots. From antilock brakes to airbags to life-saving medicine and surgery, the more people likely to benefit from these technological advances ensures that more idiots, imbeciles and morons remain alive and viable to pass on their stupid-genes.
I'm no Apple fanboi, but the Newton's (old jokes aside and it was tightened up immediately and in ensuing OS updates) implementation was a miracle to behold back then in '97 or so. Palm had that mess "graffiti" which I always resented because it made me learn to write all over again. I liked a machine that comformed to me, not the other way around.

He thinks he's a computer guru because he is surrounded by sycophants telling him how awesome and smart he is. But he's not.

This is going to be fun to watch!
that it's a bad idea and a deathtrap.
While it's true that hardware remains viable longer, Win 8 is AWFUL. I bought two new PCs and specifically sought out ones with W7 licenses.
huh? You mean idiot average users won't have to wait 30 seconds or so while their idiot YouTube videos buffer? Greeeeeeat.
...was supposed to be a cure-all for everything from depression to criminal behavior. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
