The nice thing about them (I have one... yes, i work for AOL) is that it now ensures that i WON'T be checking work email outside of the office.

sure, the security is nice... but after having left mine at home a couple of times, suddenly you're cut off from the world. no email. no access. nothing.

so now, as any good security conscious user does, my RSA key sits on my desk. right next to my workstation.

I'll chime in and say that on the Mac, iPhoto is really a killer tool for organizing photos.

after spending close to $150,000 on an interwoven set up, we finally gave up the ghost and ripped it out last month.

it has got to be one of the worst, most tempermental services i've ever used.

the breaking point was after asking the IW consultant "how do we make and manage templates?" and having him reply:
"you can't. you have to call us."

we're now back (and quite happy) using out custom setup based on VSS, ASP, SQL Server and FTP via PERL Scripts.

    Smart folks picking up the pieces for pennies on the dollar;

not trying to conquer the world,
using common sense with good service/good products.

    That kinda kicks ass.

but don't you think the AOLTW folks are foaming at the mouth to implement thier own AOL-scoped versions of 404 Redirects, smart tags, and even worse things?

remember, this is AOL-TimeWarner that we're talking about here, NOT mozilla.

thier idea of Doing The Right Thing is just as slanted as microsoft's, if not worse.

i've had a few tablets in my time, Calcomps, SummaGraphics, and Wacom.

for what it's worth, my last 3 purchases have all been wacom, and i've bought wacoms for my designers here.

their drivers always seem to play nice (the exception being with osx, but that's still not ready for a production studio yet...) and the tablets and pens themselves seem have a little better construction. (i've broken 2 calcomp pens.)

it's more than just *nix on the desktop. It's putting a "real" front end on it, that will allow your mom to comforatbly use a *nix system.

Ask anyone, the major fault with any *nix platform is the UI. it's scattered, the standards aren't followed, no installations are ever easy, way too much CLI (for consumers), it goes on and on.

People like good solid UI. People even like Bad UI that pretends to be good UI.
