  1. Re:Sell! on Should a Teenage Entrepreneur Sell Out To Facebook? · · Score: 1

Sell, but be sure you get paid in cash.

Shares (or even worse, options) are much harder to predict the future value of, based on when you can sell them. Your business is worth real cash to them today in terms of smaller hardware investments and power savings. If they want to pay you in some exotic fashion, insist on cash. If they say that they can't or won't, tell them they are full of shit and walk out. You will find a better deal.

If they offer you shares or options as part of an additional employment deal, that is fine. Employment is a different matter and shares (especially options) are a good way to ensure you have some skin in the game and with vesting terms, that you will feel the pain if you leave.

Agreed. I lived in the Houston metro area at that time and my house lost shingles during Rita - many of my friends lost power. Not sure how this is 'missing the region entirely.' Is it a bad summary or a bad article? I don't really care to dig myself, but perhaps someone who has RTFA can enlighten us.

Predominant languages by country, according to their respective CIA factbooks:

Current 'enemies' or states with open conflicts and "terrorists" (judge that term at your own discretion):
Afghanis mostly speak a Persian dialect (50%) or Pashto (35%)
    Iraqis speak Arabic (official language)
    Iranians speak Persian (53%)

Current 'allies' or states with ties to the US, but who have produced militants intent on our destruction:
    Saudis speak Arabic (100%)
    Egyptians speak Arabic (official language)
    Emiratis speak Arabic (official language)

Arabic is what you would really want to learn, if you were intent on doing this effectively. But, I would suggest that if you were willing to go that far, you could probably help more by working inside our intelligence community rather than trolling the 'enemy' and pissing them off even more.

Agreed. Awkward is a guilty pleasure, but not too guilty. It is scripted (and fairly well, for a teen dramedy). The Sadie character is particularly well crafted - I particularly enjoyed her weight struggle in the first few episodes and Sadie later blaming her mother for marrying a man with fat genes.

  5. Re:"Gateway" theory is still irrelevant on Study Finds Alcohol, Not Marijuana, Is the Biggest Gateway Drug For Teens · · Score: 1

Indeed, the idea of a gateway drug is ridiculous and furthermore, these studies usually assume that using one leads directly to another through some correlation-based statistics without substantiating causation. (No I did not RTFA). In my opinion, the real gateway is associating oneself with the kind of people who use and/or can supply you with the illegal/illicit substances. No, I do not have facts to substantiate my assertion.

  6. What about the users on FTC Reportedly Fining Google $22.5 Million Over Safari Privacy Abuse · · Score: 1

If my privacy was violated, what is the effect of this ruling to me? I assume I would receive nothing from the settlement, as it is a penalty/fine. And the fine is probably less than the benefit they received from the advertising they were able to sell. Just a cost of doing business. How disappointing that we can't put some teeth into judgments like this.

FTFS: "...The city asks test companies to exclude 'creatures from outer space' as well — for unspecified reasons." I suspect it is not re: offending scientologists, but rather students who hold no legal status in the country, such as citizenship or a green card. They are often referred to as illegal aliens.
