The article doesn't even mention Microsoft or Bill Gates. You bigots got your panties in a bunch over nothing. Again.

What will happen to the iPaq pdas? I've seen the HP PocketPCs and they can't hold a candle to the iPaqs. Hopefully if one line has to go, it will be the HPs.
No really. What is this a protest against? This story is really bizare.
XP is gonna cost this much!! BOYCOTT! But why? The pricing isn't any different as past versions of windows. What are you guys complaining about?
The fact that the open-source guys have very different ideas regarding the very basis of their movement is discouraging for anyone thinking of making a switch. Its FUD, but it comes from the open-source camp itself, and not Microsoft. If the o/s guys can't even agree on the direction of linux, why should I invest my time with it?
A propriety solution like Oracle, or Microsoft is very different in this regard. They present a single voice on the direction and purpose of their products. Sure, there is internal infighting but you never really head about that till after the fact. All that is presented to the end user is a single voice, a single vision. With linux, you have a dozen little kings each with their own agenda. Who does the user follow? It's very confusing.
A single king, even a less than optimal king, is more stable.
While I don't find it hard to believe that they still don't know how to fix the problem, I think they should give a status update. I spent 5 years or so as a developer for a consulting firm. The first rule was no communication was bad communication. Tell us what's happening!
Slashdot has suffered several major problems in the last week, as recent as yesterday, without so much as a peep from the maintainers of the site.
Why the silence?
I wonder who is taking the ad banner's bait to "Hire a Superstar" from VA when these guys can't even get a dopey message board up and running, much less a real web application.
I believe that the reasons why many people are upset about this change in Zelda is because the videogame industry hasn't had a wake up call... [much drivel deleted]
No, the reason people are upset is because they showed movies with a highly detailed character, and replaced it with a cartoon. It's bait and switch. If they showed the cartoon first, people wouldn't feel as ripped off as they do.
It seems logical (to me, at least) that programming as portably as possible, as simply as possible, and using standards where possible, leaves a lot more sales options open for the future... and DirectX seems to close all options *but one*."
A game's life is very short. Keeping options open for the future isn't important because there isn't a future to speak of. The other platforms just aren't large enough to do the extra work necessary. Cross-platform programming isn't free. The price is time, and when you're trying to get a game out the door, time isn't on your side.

you've missed the point. I'm not looking for more alamist, yellow jouralism.
Here, I'll spell it out for you. Selling a console bundel isn't new. At a look at Amazon, it doesn't even appear that you can buy a bare playstation2 from them; its bundels only.
You guys are only whinning about this because you have a hardon for microsoft.

But I don't remember any alarmist stories on slashdot about that. Wonder why...
Why you guys argue over how many angels can dance on the head of a pin Microsoft is making better and better software. What have you guys done? Whine? Complain about all the injustice in the world? You guys aren't interested in software at all, you guys just use it as a medium for complaining about stuff.
Second, it should be made very clear that the original complainant, Adobe, has stated that they don't feel he should be charged
Adobe has precious little to do with it. This isn't a civil case. The police are not the personal tools of people or companies, who come running when you call them, only to be sent home when you feel you don't need them anymore. They are serving the people not the individual. The fact that Adobe doesn't want this guy in jail anymore has no impact. He didn't harm Adobe, he harmed the people at large.
One of the reasons overlooked is vanity. It's a chance at some level of fame. It's a chance at recognition from your peers. It's a jerkoff session.

Dear god the game boy advance needs this. Its so dim i can bearly see the screen, even in full light.
I mean... really. Not Funny. Just long and tedious.
Apple folk kept laughing at win3.1 only to get hammered by win95. Just because you have a lead now, donsn't mean you'll have a lead tommorow.
While you spend your time arguing over nothing, Microsoft keeps improving thier software.
Argue over nonsense less, write good code more.
There are exceptions. The grand majority of games rise and fall in a very short space of time.
