I do see your point. Tourist isn't the correct term. But they were private citizens. Not government sponsored. That was my point. The four people who went to the ISS were by no means up there just to float around and look out the window, they only qualified by being able to do scientific research while aboard the ISS. Anyone who has gone to space so far have been absolute professionals. But the labels haven't been invented for what people who pay to go to space vs who are not paid, and yet again, privately backed vs government.
I would like to ask Brian and Mike what they consider themselves to be. Maybe 'tourist' should be replaced with 'adventurer'. I have no doubt that Mike and Brian would consider their short jaunt a working holiday. The idea of private citizens in space is in its infancy, we'll figure out the terminology eventually.
There have been 4 visitors to the International Space Station. Mike Melvill and Brian Binnie road SpaceShipOne to space and can also be considered space tourists. Making the total 6.
Also, from the article, before you read the information on the site itself, it implies you'd go on the same trip as the first four Space Adventures customers to the ISS. This is not so, they will be flying to space onboard the XCOR Xerus single stage RLV. Not 7-10 days in space, but 5 minutes. Not detracting from the 5 minute space flight, just seeing the earth from space and experiencing weightlessness for any amount of time could be a life changing experience.
I don't know why this has been popping up in the news again. This technology was showcased at least a year ago (or more), and I remember destinctly that they had tweaked the software to hide the genitals, etc.
Doesn't relativity state that light is constant speed for every observer? The speed of light is always the speed of light no matter of direction or speed? How does a doppler effect work with radio waves then?
Here's why this is gonna happen: China. Bush is all a-scared the Yellas are gonna claim the moon. [sic]
But y'know, I really don't care why, as long as we do it, the benefits will be seen through the eye of history.
Other reasons this will perservere: - the US aerospace industry has fallen on hard times (post 9/11, european contracts being won) - correcting the mistakes of his father again, Bush Sr tried to make a prophetic announcement about sending people to Mars. - (more on China) Nationalistic pride will maintain thier drive to continue expanding thier missions. - its a good idea where the rewards are not even half known until we actually do the work
You might want to read the interview. The Borg are left over from St: First Contact. There are bits left of the Borg Sphere that around found in the Arctic.
And I like the show, of course the first couple of seasons are going to suck, isn't that how all the Trek series are? (except TOS) They have to find their footing, we have to get to know the characters. With a combination of 21 years of episodes, sure its going to be difficult to come up with fresh ideas, so give them a chance. And, for the people who wanted the "Secret Ops" show. This is not Gene Roddenbery's vision, what got us all excited about Star Trek in the beginning was showing us a future that we would like to live in. Not one we are afraid to live in. Nemesis, I'm afraid to say, was trying to much to relive the glory days of Kahn. A personal nemesis, and Spock dying, oops, I mean Data. Oh, but he's not really dead, cuz his brain was downloaded into B-4 (rolls eyes at name). What is the next on going to be ST: The Search for Data, when the crew goes into the holodeck and searches for Data in the mind of B-4? With that, maybe the next movie, if they can afford the actors, would focus on a HUGE threat to the Federation that would require the crews from TNG, DS9 and Voyager to work together.
Maybe... The Borg, in conjunction with the Rand Corporation, control the Jem H'dar and Hirogens, to help the Reverse Vampires make the Alpha Quadrant into a huge holodeck where the Saucer People and Photonic life forms replay Captain Proton until everyone goes crazy. (Simpson's, is there anywhere it can't fit in?)...my 2 cents.
These are not genetically altered foods in any way. It's regular old cow cells grown in a dish, fed the correct nutrients so they keep on growing and dividing. I don't understand how this is more sick than cutting up a live animal and eating its muscles. Maybe you should take a look a PETAs web site videos to see if you'd rather lab steak or not.:)
By buying these lights and hopefully increasing the production, it will hopefully drop the price more and help a project that is ongoing in Nepal where a guy has been giving batteries hooked up to super bright LEDs so that people can have light after dark for the first time in their lives, allowing children to spend more time learning to read and increasing the quality of life just that much more.
How about just making two (or three) small domed peices of conductive metal like is used on a touch lamp. I just wonder if it would tarnish and stop working, of course, a little contact cleaner and good as new. As much maintenance as cleaning your mouse ball and rollers. But, completely silent!
Hey, I live in St. John's, Newfoundland, right now I'm about a 2 minute drive from said airport. I want to apologize for small people who think they have been put on top of a pedestal since Sept 11th, or the people above them who pressure them so much not to let any exceptions (even obvious ones) through making them feel they have no choice but to obey or lose thier job. What I want to know is, WHY was he here at all? We're a pretty small place, I can only assume he was here to visit the university, I want to know who he was here to visit.
I hope his experiement is not ruined and that he was not traumatized by the event. Newfoundlander's are actually known for our friendliness! REALLY!:)
Again, sorry from the PRO-cyborgs in Newfoundland.
Video! Need lots of video of this.
hah! If that is your real lat/long I'm about 2 km from you. :)
Lard tundering jaysus! Don't be talking about us Newfie's!
hehehe You're post just proves our biggest difference. We are a cultural mosaic, and not the melting pot that happens when you go further south.

Look at it closely, its obviously Wonderwoman's invisible jet.

Well obviously they would look like the Remens from Star Trek: Nemesis, duh! ;)

Just slightly ahead of my time?
