when i worked at the Burger King the system recorded time in 15-minute chunks. You could sign out for your break at 12:38 and your time card would show 12:45. So you could "get over on the man" if you timed it right.
Of course if you're working at the Burger King the Man has pretty much had his way with you already, but that's a different story.
Okay, so you'll do something that by your own admission will have no effect. This somehow makes you feel better about yourself I guess.
It's great that fingerprinting everyone entering the US will make you feel better. But there are so many bad ramifications to this idea, it's not worth it to carry out this plan just to make you feel better.
I'm not sure how this will prevent anything but hopefully it can.
Think of what you are saying. Of what you just said. You are putting your support behind this plan... why? You are not being rational. Fear, or something else that clouds your judgement, has taken control of your mind.
Really. Think about it. Let's say I'm trying to sell you a new computer. I say "I'm not really sure how buying this new comptuer will help you, but I hope it will." Would you buy it? Why or why not? And why is this fingerprinting situation any different?
Funny, I made the exact same comment when Bush came in to office, in the context of North Korea won't try anything since they have no idea how we'll respond, but they know it won't be pretty.
They answer the question themselves, without even realizing it:
"what about the issue of Open Source Code?"
(scroll down a bit)
Source Code is not open to the public...
Now, why is it not open to the public? The first reason given is to protect some unnamed company, in this case Diebold. The second reason is to protect against terrorists, which is the new word for hackers in case you hadn't heard.
In other words:
To protect the company from any liability, and to protect the public from terrorist attack, the vote tabulation code will remain secret.
Who was the lucky Georgian who was challened by the Secretary of State? What an honor, to hack for the people of your entire state!
Okay, I accept that the Air Force doesn't have this problem. But I still feel like the National Guard, and Army, i.e. the soldiers we'll rely on to occupy Iraq, are seeing more departures than new conscripts.
One of three things will happen. (1) Air Force personnel will become occupation grunts in Iraq, (2) there will be a draft, (3) servicemen that were told they'd be in Iraq for one year will stay for two or three. They've already done #3 which leads to the immediate departure of many of those soldiers once their tour is up.
I am certainly no expert, but plenty of people are concerned that unless we get a larger military, we will be stretched too thin. What if China decided to roll over Taiwan this morning? With so many troops in Iraq would we be able to do anything about it?
There's currently a program in place not only to let people out [of the military], but to let us out AHEAD of schedule
Right, that's exactly why they need a DRAFT. Becuase too many of the volunteers are saying "hey, you know what, this is a raw deal" and punching out when their 2 years are up.
It's pretty well established that the numbers in the active service and esp. the reserves are dwindling. Not that I'd expect much else considering how our govt. has reduced veterans benefits tremendously over the past few years.
There's no reason to think that every war worth fighting can be fought with volunteers.
Are we talking about fighting a war, or are we talking about using the military to occupy formerly sovereign countries that have already lost the war against us?
I don't think the army really needs all that many coders or what have you. Well, unless they are trying to save a buck and not pay all those high-priced defense contractors to do the work. If that's the case, this bill will surely die in committee, because all those defense contractors will not allow their slice of the pie to be diminshed.
but there IS a difference between GTA and the Passion, and it wouldn't be hypocritical for a Christian parent to refuse their child GTA but make sure they watch the aforementioned movies.
I have to say, I disagree with that. There is little of "religious value" in The Passion.
The Passion is really just an excuse to show a ton of violence and suffering. By only focusing on the last 12 hours of Big J's life, you don't have the chance to see a character arc, or learn anything about WHY he's (willingly) being tortured and executed.
The fact is (well, the dogma is) that Jesus deliberately and freely returned to Jerusalem with full knowledge that he would be put to death. It is this selfless act of transcendence that Christians should be focusing on, not the ensuing orgy of violence.
Here's what you should do, assuming you can solder, which you said you could.
Set up a home business modding peoples Xboxes and PS2s over the summer. You're the right age to know a bunch of people who will have them, and will probably have a couple hundred bucks they could throw your way if you hotrod them.
Charge them the cost of the modchip (cheap, like $30) the cost of a hard drive, and 100 bucks for yourself.
Just don't run afoul of the authorities when you do all this, they will think you're cyber-terrorists or something. Not that you're doing anything all that illegal, but don't start hacking DSS cards too.
Maybe roasted garlic ice cream would be worth a shot? I love garlic but I don't really see how fresh garlic would translate into a delighful ice cream experience...
I encountered that problem looking for song lyrics. There were a dozen sites full of song lyrics, but it was all the same transcription, with the same errors and same ???s, and no attribution either.
I guess you have to try your own garlic ice cream recipe. I'm not sure under what conditions garlic ice cream would taste good but when you figure it out please let us know.
Come on, you dont think this is funny?

But we need to know if this is a two-way street:
Let's say I'm using ICQ, and I take the extra step to turn off the logging. Does that mean that I don't consent to the conversation being recorded?
This seems pretty important.
That's a good point, and when you look things that way you can see LOTS of examples of "broken capitalism" in the world around us.
But I always thought that capitalism, just on its own, lead to the formation of monopolies?
why dont you just get a mac and quit bitching.
ftp from the command line works just fine in windows.

If you didnt see this coming you are exactly the sort of person P.T. Barnum says is born every minute.
Sure, it could be used for good. But you know and I know that it will eventually be used for evil.
