... that if Sun's executives stopped writting such long and such a prolific amount of mindless and pointless blog entries and more time spent RUNNING THE DAMN COMPANY that Sun might be doing better than it is?
If you want to committ suicide, thats fine. I actually think that ought to be legal after a voluntary review process but to subject family and friends to your dubious medical knowledge I don't think is well honorable. Its not about having the right to do something, its about being right in doing it.
The reason why we allow not just 18 year olds but 16 year olds to drive, but not DRINK until they're 21 is because we like to keep drunk driving accidents down to a minimum. So yes in a society where people abandone the unhibitied freedoms of a nomadic lifestyle, a person's freedom to drive however they want is absolutely infringed so that people can get from point A to point B without getting flattened by some drunk on the road.
Do you really find that so offensive to your sense of personal liberty?
You make it sound like the US bombed Japan on a whim. Your views of the US are distorted by your hatred of its current administration. Quit jumping on the lame bandwagon and recognize that nuclear weapons in the hand of third world nations ARE more dangerous than they are in the hands of the US.
Proud AC, stupid AC, we used the bomb because we had to. Because killing hundreds of thousands of the enemy is preferrable to losing thousands of your own in an invasions. We put our people first. Thats not insane. Thats human nature.
And what good is a brand new mega bomb that no one respects because no one has seen it used before?
Why are you libertarians unable to see the value in any law or regulation?
A car is a sometimes many thousand pound moving piece of metal. You don't think the government has an interest in making sure that people know how to operate them properly?
The AMA sets standards so you don't get doctors who think that washing his hands is well "a waste of time".
But hell the common sense built up over the centuries isn't worth a damn if it leads to a rule or law that saves lives right?
What you aren't noticing is that before the iPod was introduced there were a lot of MP3 Players already on the market with a lot of features the iPod still doesn't have and the market did not take off. There will always be a niche of geeks and hardcore users who want all those features but most folks just want something that "just works". And Apple has that covered with the iPod. The Creative CEO assumes that because his company's products have more features for the same or less money that they will outsell the iPod. I doubt this very much so.

If you read those articles you'll see that one Apple has something most other companies don't, and two you'll get a glimpse at Apple's possible future.
You know that "Digital Living Room" all the tech companies are trying to create? Apple has a head start. The iPod, and the iPod Photo, are the first steps. The iPod Photo already connects to a TV. Add a Mac Mini to that (more likely a rev 2 version with Tivo features) and they'll have it pretty much well wrapped up.
You really need to stop with the class warfare. You make it sound like there is some organization of rich folks that meets weekly in smoke filled rooms to discuss and plot the downfall of the middle class.
Have you ever thought for one moment that perhaps the widening of the middle class was an unsustainable abberation to begin with?
Funny. You state that as fact. Were you here when God created this world to see it occur with your own eyes? If not then how could you possibly be so certain?
Blizzard is to the PC AND Mac gaming communities what Bungie was. The ever talented folks at Blizzard always release dual platform games on the first release.
Hahahh its sad that you the first person to even point out the two-faced nature of Slashdotters in this thread. This really should have been a first or near first post issue.
Fortunately with me there is no moral qualm since I never thought Blizzard was in the wrong on the Bnetd case to begin with.
Numerous studies have shown that the children of homosexual couples do not turn out any differently than children of heterosexual couples. So no the dysfunction in families is not caused or related to homosexuality.
Funnily enough dysfunction and neurosis can occur in heterosexual families too.
Those who have greater abilities ARE treated preferentially, by life. They get and achieve more. And as far as rights go, those with money still have more.
And yes that tribal Einstein would achieve more than Britney, if there were any tribal Einsteins to begin with. The fact that it has not happened yet is proof that there are not.
A great nation accurately defined is one that does right by its own people. The former Iraqi government did not do that. And the citizens themselves are getting in the way of having a proper government installed for them. The longer they keep acting up, the longer they will suffer.
My example is that there are folks who want to levy confiscatory taxes on the rich to bring them down to everyone else's financial levels.
No not every rich person or poor person is a certain way. But the majority of them are, and then they have associates (wives, family, friends) who may or may not be similar.
The Iraqis were assholes, BEFORE the invasion. They let Saddam stay in power for too long. Had they removed him themselves we would never have had a reason to invade.
You came across as a pacifist. If you truly just want to prevent pork spending than thats a lot different, but ultimately pointless anyway. Pork exists in all parts of government.
Democracy is a great thing but it has tricked some folks into believing we're all equal instead of the need to strive for an egalitarian society. There are those who are more talented, intelligent, faster, than others. Those who get their acts together quicker benefit and those who don't suffer. When the people of Iraq want to stop acting like jackasses they too shall be able to build a great nation.
" On the recent Slashdot story about an interview with the MS people who worked on SP2, I for suggestions about asked how such presumably intelligent, well-intentioned & sincere people dealt with the cognitive dissonance of working on non-Free software....... Arguments such as 'my family has to eat', 'how would programs like Photoshop be developed if it was Free?', "I am free to distribute software I write under any license I like", etc etc, are missing the point. I'd hate to find myself deciding that the reason is that proprietary developers consciously dismiss the moral / ethical issues as uninteresting or irrelevant. I know there are a lot of people here working on proprietary as well as Free s/w and you can't all be trolls:)"
Did it ever occur to you that people work on proprietary software to make money, because they like to buy all sorts of things that require money, and they don't see software as a movement, but rather as "stuff" that runs on a computer? The main issue the people you cannot understand have is you try to equate the 1's and 0's of binary software with the issues involving civil rights or religious freedom or democracy. They're not the same. Software is just a "thing" that people use. The others are real issues that are important to fight and die for. One really sounds like a loser when one tries to elevate software to that level. I know the first thought in *MY* mind is "Why don't you find a REAL cause instead of pretending you have a valid crusade with this free software business"?
Its like trying to make a moral issue out of wearing white shoes after labor day. Those who do, are WE TODD IT!:-)
I just read your linked site about Distributism. Do you actually believe in this stuff? Its hilarious. Especially this page: http://www.distributism.com/objectives.htm

I take it this economic system is based on a particular religon. Whats the point of designing such a system knowing full well you'll never get 100% or even 75% of the population to be a part of any one religion?
Do you think every company that depends on intellectual property is some huge megalithic entity? Aren't some of these companies small or midsized businesses that will go OUT of business if they can't get paid for what they're producing? So when those companies go under and those folks lose their jobs is that not an important issue? The perpetrator of the crime may appear generally harmless, but you greatly underestimate the amount of economic damage one twerp behind a keyboard can do while still in his mother's basement.
Come on Teal'C. I would have thought you'd have a much higher sense of honor than this! JaffaKREE!!
Downloads are free. If you choose to waste your bandwidth by not using what you've paid for thats your choice. Basic economics there.
I never said ALL downloads are depriving IP holders of income but you yourself accept that some displace some income. Displacing more than $0 in income is way too much. Again basic economics.
So who's the one not achnowledging the laws of economics?
Do you see any desktop linux users?
