I LIKE having 4 cars. I LIKE having a bunch of TV's. I LIKE my cell phone. Just because other countries don't have as much as we do means nothing to me. It could very well be that they just can't afford it, not that they don't want it.

I friggin love my PDA. I had paper organizers for years and I would always leave them somewhere or not have them with me when I needed to write something down. With my PDA that doesn't happen. What is your major malfunction? In another post you want people to actually be satisifed with simpler times and to not go crazy when the electricity goes out. Did you suffer a nervous breakdown recently because of your IT job or something??
Its all in how you define what is a "good life". To me its being able to support myself, buy all the things I want, go on trips and not have to get up to work everyday like most others. That requires a significant amount of money, but more importantly it requires the opportunity to make that money. You need the concept of property to make this possible.
In all honesty, since the cable and telephone industries in the US are quite usable and enjoyable, and considered so by millions of Americans then what is the problem with the net following their path?
Surely you're not suggesting that the hordes of Free Software/Open Source users actually PAY for any of the software that they use. Don't you remember? "INFORMATION WANTS TO BE FREE!". Nevermind that RENT WANTS TO BE PAID or FOOD WANTS TO BE BOUGHT, but when it comes to software all the rules in the universe are reversed and those who write software for a living are not supposed to actually be able to make a living. Those lucky few programmers are supposed to live on forestland communes where they forage for fruits and berries while their latest kernel compiles with the -hunger flag.
Frankly you disgust me by implying that we should enable certain free software developers to live in dignity via getting paid for what they most likely spent 4 years in college learning what to do. Only EVIL people such as Doctors, Entertainers, Lawyers, OTHER kidns of Engineers and such go to college to get ew... PAYING jobs and professions. The most honorable Computer Science graduates however nobly sacrifice their highly marketable skills for the greater good. To suggest that a CS grad should be able to afford moving himself or his family out of his mother's basement is an affront to the FSF, GNU, Slashdot and the entire Free Software Community! SHAME ON YOU SIR!

Just because someone is a geek doesn't mean they agree with you. There are many geeks, some are democrats, some are republicans, some are neither. So that right there keeps the geek lobby from having a united voice on any issue.
Any interface thats a non-Windows/non-Mac interface is pretty much a geek interface by default. And none of the geek interfaces are as good as a Win/Mac interface.

Sure thats a great idea. Lets dissolve a company and put several hundred to several thousand employees/voters out of work just so that we can re-instate corporate charters to make you feel better. Everyone will love THAT plan! YAY!
