    a pilot that knew what he was doing (which includes every pilot "type certified" for %aircraft%) could do a lot in the window of Normal Operations to Risk Damage to the Airframe/Passengers. The way it would work is 1 vent the cabin 2 DIVE for lower altitudes 3 have copilot call the nearest ATC for a Emergency Landing Clearance.

    THIS PLANE WILL NOT BE HIJACKED.

    as far as Legal Issues are concerned i would think that the FAA would allow "Reasonable Care in Limiting Damage" as a defense.

    if you level a building with a drone or with an A-10 it does not matter if the building in question has "civilians" in it.

    drones at least can be lost without needing rather long term (and expensive) build processes.

    the ideal drone should be able to "redact" a single building and leave the surrounding buildings intact.

    All you have to do is have proper locks and PROPERLY CHECK A FIREARM.

    as of that moment your luggage is considered a sealed container and can not be legally opened without you being present.
    (please note this does not have to be a working firearm and details may vary with each airline but ...)

    its funny how close the "unlock cockpit" and "vent cabin" buttons are on the planes control panel.

    don't forget the most dangerous weapon on an airplane is THE AIRPLANE ITSELF.

    all a pilot would have to do in the worst case is 1 vent the cabin 2 disable the autopilot 3 have a bit of "fun" with aerobatics

    result 1 plane full of folks that have been tossed about like dice in a cup. ("ATC this is flight 34583 request immediate clearance for landing and Medical meet us on the ground." "roger flight 34583 nature and scope of injuries...")

    i would think that there is exactly ZERO chance of making a rigged simple component without making it look different from what is normal.

    now you might be able to dink with an IC (by using a smaller process than the chip requires) but at the resistor/cap/diode level there is NO ROOM.

    even if you somehow "bugged" a component tolerances would be murder.

    actually for Windows based computers the problem is that Microsoft basically has told Computer OEMs that if you preload X Y Z products (MSIE Office and Media Player commonly) AND don't also preload any competing products then your price per computer sold for Windows (and any other MSGoodness) is $XX but if you don't your price per computer sold is $Y*X (which approaches Retail Cost for some OEMS)

    As to why Apple does not have the same problem

    1 they sell the hardware also
    2 most iFolk will either know how to download say FireFox or would prefer Safari anyway

    it the problem of high performance always has a price. Okay so you used Thinkrin(TM) to boost your brain by 20% so now what??

    Where is the 20% going to come from??

    Look at Every Single Star in various Fields and then count the number of them that

    1 Did not die either well or of Old Age
    2 are severely CRACKED
    3 have bodies that are a wreck (for Fields that include a lot of Physical Stuff)
    4 landed up adding their pharmacists to the Christmas list just because DAH DRUGS became very important

    sure overclock your brain by 20% but don't be surprised when in 10 years you land up thinking that FaceBook Games are the best thing ever (or whatever NetFad replaces FB)

    While the Justice department shares legal code with the Department of Defense if you are in the military then you go before the Judge Advocate General and they use the Uniform Code Of Military Justice.

    true fact a guy in the process of doing a crime could choose which court he wants by making sure he does/does not wait until he is separated from the military.

    There is an account of a lab dating a sample as being 200,000 years old but When they told the CoalMiner the sample came from he was very surprised.

    also with any radioisotope dating you can get a rather large spread even in the same chunk of "stuff" (and with the same technique also) this is even Order of Magnitude level differences.

    1 IT MAKES OIL (which is most likely cleaner than the stuff we dig up)

    2 This can be done locally (so no depending on THEM) for Oil.

    3 we need Oil for Stuff also (plastics use Oil)

    4 it takes a nonzero amount of energy to refine Oil (and then truck/pipeline it to where its being used)

    the trick is that if you start with a wider gene pool to start out with then you have a greater chance of having the "dice" find something interesting.

    look at it this way if you have to roll 35 on 4d10 to evolve and you start out with 8d10 its a lot easier to do this.

    (btw this shows a logical fault in evolution since way to many things have A-MG chains of traits that if they don't all work then

    there are several subjects that a person NEEDS to handle life.

    math: to at least the lower levels of algebra
    Geometry : regular solids and such minimum
    Chemistry: Inorganic Chemistry and a basic grounding in Organic Chemistry
    Physics: Basic grounding here so you know things like NOT to try and argue with a semi when you are in a smart car

    i think that covers most of the Science stuff (but suggest other bits as needed)

    If you are really concerned that he is missing stuff like public speaking do the same thing that the Trophy Wife you keep chatting up does with her daughter to fix the lack of Ballet Courses in the public schools ARRANGE FOR THEM AFTER SCHOOL.
