Actually, you are screwed. She has already made her decision about computers, operating systems, and (likely) technology in general. Been there, seen that before.
She just wants you to lay out her options, explain to her what you are willing to do and not willing to do.

I just installed AppleWorks on my Lombard running Tiger a couple weeks ago. I hadn't touched it for years but suddenly found the need for it and I still knew where the CD-ROM installer disk was.

As far as his manager is concerned, he did master it in a weekend. Now piss off.

Actually 95-years is a soft number; it can be ignored. The U.S. has an indefinite copyright duration on recordings so long as you have the money to extend it.
I use SeaMonkey on most of my machines except my 500-MHz G4, 384-MB RAM, Lombard PowerBook (running Tiger).
This is a pretty slow computer for what I have running on it and I have to give thought to how I use it. For normal web browsing, it's Safari because of how lean Safari runs.
Has anyone compared the browsers on 500-MHz, 384MB-RAM PC laptops? How about jumping between open apps when different browsers are running (testing virtual memory economics?)
Cory Doctorow [...] also pointed out that the US government also seems to be living in this fantasy world.
Not a fantasy world. It's just that people in positions of authority are unbelievably ignorant. Like trying to truly fathom the trillions upon trillions of stars in the universe, we cannot hope to appreciate how fantastically, utterly ignorant they are.
To this day, there is a surprising number of people in our government who sit in important policy making positions who do not -- in fact, cannot -- use a computer. They don't use email. They've never visited a web site.
They rely on others for expertise and guess who the "others" are... corporations. Corporations with agendas.
I shouldn't have bothered. To save everyone else the time here's a summary:
1. Hate Apple, Apple hardware, and hate the Mac OS X. 2. Review it. 3. Result: Hate Apple, Apple hardware, and hate the Mac OS X.
I have to admit that I didn't expect much, really, when I read in Slashdot's article summary that there's a "lack of quality freeware" for Mac OS X... the author definitely doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about.
Yep. I've used OpenOffice to access documents that crash Microsoft Office applications, too. These are good tools to keep around for this reason alone.
By getting ourselves worked up about this we are only playing into their strategy. This threat worries only the people who don't know better. (Not coincidentally, these are frequently the people making technology investment and purchasing decisions. This is an old, faithful Microsoft business technique.)
I bought a 2007 model Prius a the end of this last December.
I get 50MPG. I get about 51MPG on the highway. I don't drive any differently than I did when I was driving my '98 Cadillac Sedan Deville.
I'm starting to think that the government mileage ratings are doing more harm than good. Everyone: want to know how much gas a car consumes? Ask someone who drives one... a real person in the real world.

After that, you should relax. It's her life.
I'm not from Massachusetts but has anyone investigated Governor Deval Patrick's ties to the casino industry? From a distance, this kinda reeks.
Follow the money; money is the truth drug.

You're not taking this well, are you?

Coming from someone who owns a laptop?

You don't share their enthusiasm for marketing.

Only if the proper parenthesis are used (eg: "Is good journalism, in general, possible?") Even then, it's probably still not possible.
I just installed AppleWorks on my Lombard running Tiger a couple weeks ago. I hadn't touched it for years but suddenly found the need for it and I still knew where the CD-ROM installer disk was.
Just really weird timing.

Thanks. I started to read the article but then saw that it was 19-pages long.
19 pages. What the hell are they thinking?

This is a good thing. Imagine if they'd decided to clone crotch sniffing dogs.

Actually, they went with AT&T... err, Cingular... err, AT&T....

Yes, you're the only one.

I'm bookmarking your quote, dude!
I'll enjoy reading it again in the future, right after I re-read about how the iPod is dead.

What makes you think that Apple didn't know about any of these? Since it's beta, I'm sure that Apple's developers KNOW it has problems.
You assumptions will be on surer ground once Safari's released.

We all know that this is a ruse. We know it.
We can do our part by ignoring this non-event.

FLASH: Steroid Market Craters
Apple will not be able to manufacture enough of the iPhone to meet demand, probably for a pretty long time. Mark my words, Google.
The eunuchs -- I mean critics -- can employ all the reasoning they like. If they were so damn smart the iPod would have been discontinued years ago.

Really? That easy?
I'm going apply your procedure to another task:
Step 1) reduce calories
Step 2) exercise vigorously
Result: Lose weight!
Your confidence inspires me -- piece of cake!
I'm going to apply this process next to aquiring a Phd.
