Actually Tesla has already partnered with gas stations to provide on site batterie exchanges in an attempt to extend the range. The newest Tesla is designed to allow easy swap of the batterie. A friend of mine who owns one claims it's quicker than filling up.

I understand this "prototype" is capable of 80 miles but lets say it was able to do 400 miles, I would still be limited to 400 miles. What Tesla is trying to do is have gas stations keep charged batteries in storage for quick swaps. The Telsa batterie is a quick disconnect/reconnect so that you can extend the range beyond its current limited range. I think in the near future it is the best option for EVs.

Catalytic converters on the other hand could quickly be chopped off a car that you could slide under and resold as raw materials instead of attempting to sell an actual car part at a ridiculously lower value than new.

In today's society there is so much advertisement and various other coverages on this topic that the girls had NO excuse to continue the excessive bullying.

I believe that our schools and government are properly educating children and parent on this topic. I would never consider blocking access to technology to children because it's important for them to be hands on as early as possible (My daughter browses youtube since she's 4). To consider regulating ANYTHING over one incident is extreme to say the least. IMHO we need to focus efforts on regulating firearms before the Internet.

Now, if you do low level programming I understand you don't want the signed/unsigned BS but Java is mostly for high level programming so it's a moo point.

I think Microsoft's monopoly was lost years ago.

As for your comment about the "Microsoft Tax", my belief is that for a company to be viable for a business or end user, it must support its products. MS has done that (some will argue but they speak from their wind hole). If I have an issue with their software I can actually call someone and get up and running quickly or at the least get a ticket to devs put in. On the open source side I have to post in a forum and HOPE someone helps me. That isn't viable for people who need their systems to run. My point is, if you aren't paying anything for software, then all your getting is hardware support and that stinks for those who aren't techies.

The population of that game alone is huge. There's tones of MMORPG that are very popular on PC and not available on other platforms. The big commercial titles like COD and BF are now available on console but even those titles still have a huge following on PC.

And what plans does Android have to provide a client server environment for companies? There's tones of large user base software being used out there that still lives in the MS world. Sure, the end users have options but businesses are still tied due to lack of options that are easy to setup and maintain. Even Mac doesn't have a solution for that yet.

I would compare the situation of a tracker to one of a pimp. The pimp doesn't provide the service nor takes the money directly, he points you to the service.

The media doesn't put guns in children's hands, bad men do.

Regardless of all this, I wonder if the tracker was first notified of the offending content. I'm a strong believer that if you don't even know it's happening, how can you prevent it. Maybe it isn't the tracker's intention to link to pirated content. If on the other hand 80% of the content linked is pirated, he should be shut down immediately.

Even the techiest of my friends doesn't give a damn about upgrading firmware or doing anything remotely close to that. They purchased a smart phone that does what they need it to do. Do you buy a calculator with the intent of modifying it? Probably not. Most consumers feel the same way about the purchase of a phone. A smart phone is just another fancy calculator. They pick a brand and move on.

As for dominance, yes, Android did a good job making sure everybody has access to putting it on their hardware which in my opinion is why Apple is loosing ground. Currently in NA, IOS is still dominating with 50% of the market and Android with 39%. MS on the other hand is struggling at 1.7% but if you look at growth (it is an important number in the business world), it has more than doubled it's presence in the last 365 days.

To deny that a big market like the smart phone market can be dominated by only 2 players is foolish at best. That kind of thinking is what happened back when Ford released it's model T. Everybody though that Ford and Chrysler (later) would be the only car manufacturers for centuries. Guess what? They were all wrong. As wrong as the people who though IOS would dominate forever and the same as those who think Android will dominate forever.

    - Hook up the phone and it's files can be copied, modified, viewed, deleted like a USB stick. The OS files cannot be viewed or modified from what I can tell
    - Tools to develop apps are free. Deploying them may not be

My earlier comment was that the windows phone can be used for Android as well. It's almost identical hardware.

From where I'm sitting, most users (99%) will never want to change anything about the OS. On top of that, by the time a new OS is worth switching to, the phone hardware will either be old or in rough shape and replacing it at no charge on your plan is more logical. For those reasons alone I can't see a company focusing it's efforts to provide any customizability for users. I'm happy Android does it for it's hardcore users but it's not what will make or break a phone OS.

The only major advantage noted for Oracle was that it can live outside of the MS platform (For some this is a big deal, for others it's a "meh!"). In addition to this it was more feature rich and included tones of new features to optimize database usage further.
