I'm sure the Global warmers/deniers will be all over the place. Either way, the article for those who didn't read it have the following stats:
Hottest national averages on record (before today).
-Snipped-
So it would appear that 1972 and even 1973 were very hot years there. As well as it appears that 2013 will be as well. Finding cause in those two anomalies will be interesting. I don't think 1972 had as much CO2 in the air as we do now. Is the area of temp measurement too small to say either way was is the cause? I'm not a climatologist. But what I do know is it's hot.
I'm not going to point out the obvious fact that they're out of order because it's a conspiracy to disprove global warming. However, I just want to ask, can we just have a giant, 10 year study of several locations among the map from Antarctica to Chile, seeing if cars or power plants may or may not have an adverse affect on weather? I'm getting tired of hearing this story, but I also know that there might be SOMETHING man-made affecting our weather.
Consider the fact there the industrial revolution happened a hundred years ago, back then there was no control of pollution until fairly recently. Today, there are a few tens of millions of cars on the road, about half of that are semis, half of that are trains, with a few thousand coal plants, several hundred thousand oil rigs, and several dozen places where garbage burning is done (rough numbers yes, but I think these are fairly close), you're going to give me a straight face and say that man has absolutely nothing to do with affecting the temperature of Earth by a single degree?
That sounds more interesting than 1984. Wonder if our government might be learning something about how to keep track of its people, quash hopes and dreams, and destroy our will, effectively turning us into zombies that are too afraid to talk?
He didn't say you have to be one to enjoy it - he said you'd need to be one to really get more out that's intelligent because the story wont give that to you.
I don't know what you think happened in 2002 - but as someone a little older let me posit that a lot of people haven't cared about more than entertainment and their personal take on politics for a long time. Lots of people still get excited about space exploration.
But as the op there says - we just don't have a lot of meat to discuss about this exact thing right now. I'm excited about it and I guess I could make some stuff up about what I think it means but I don't tend to run that way.
Now American politics? Yeah I can opine on that all day with as much validitiy as most the other idiots. Though I try to avoid that too. I used to spend a lot of energy on it and realized it was lowering my quality of life.
Be that as it may, I don't know many people who are actually excited by this and don't give me that bull that "People on Facebook post status updates." Facebook is a terrible, terrible social network that had a great beginning but is now just a hotbed of people cutting-and-pasting to make themselves look cool/
Yes, American politics suck, but I'm sure they'll die off if we stop showing them so much attention.
Do you really have to be a real geologist to enjoy the advent of scientific discovery?
I'm not any kind of Professional scientist, but I yearn for the days when we were excited about any scientific progress (I was born in 1990, and '02 was pretty much the last year anyone was excited about any kind of space exploration, instead more interested in what the next FPS is going to be like or how the American government is screwing us over this year)
Why do the articles about "Stuff that Matters" get less comments than pointless crap like the article about a Trillion Dollar coin being banned?
I can't wait for more results from Curiosity's progress. It's a shame that people only care about fails these days than successes.
And what, exactly, is going to show our future kin if we archive all of Twitter? I'll tell you one thing, swallowing it is going to be very, very hard.
Classical books, works of art, grand inventions that changed the world...and we chose to archive people pissing about on a Friday night.
Good Job, America. You've shown the world where your priorities lie.
It's not that, it's just that technology isn't what people expected. We were all hyped about 3D. It comes and it's a flop. Blu Ray came and that didn't really get much attention. Hell, we still use DVDs in my house.

Well...maybe...hrm.

What if it's a fossilized cat?

It's called Puritanism and Worry-sick parents.
I personally adopted the system. However, it's really disconcerting when you're buying a 12 pack of 24-oz soda or a 2-liter bottle of soda.

I'm American too, Freedom of Speech FTW!
Actually, who buys a blu ray player these days? Those died out really quickly to online streaming.
I call mulligan and demand they do a real field test over a simulation.
Because people in America are stubborn, arrogant, and resistant to change.
Isn't Copyright just the worst?

And it also ruins the grass as well as eat out the undercarriage of your car.
Would radar work on ice? If so, you might be able to do the 100m away.
I think it's a great idea. You can't tell where black ice patches are, so maybe it'll help out by indicating High Risk areas.

...wait. I think I got Megawatts mixed up with something else. 1 mW = 1 Million watts?
Where have you been hiding this entire time!?
No idea. You were here before me. I came fairly recently and know very little about the ins and outs.
Link on left is broken.
Real science is boring. Where are our futuristic devices we were supposed to have since the 1940s?
