saw that and I think the issue is that the sudden humidity change caused condensation, not terribly uncommon if prompt action isnt taken upon AC failure in a humid climate...I don't see a "Cloud in the room"
Windows is a great platform for development - Nothing really compares to Visual Studio+TFS+MSDN for business dev
Windows is manageable - You can do it by hand with batch scripts run on work group PCs via remote PowerShel sessions for real small shops, and scale into use of AD as you grow, and further manage all aspects with tools like System Center and Intune. Nothing else offers this level of control,
Windows is pretty bullet proof...I know in a controlled datacenter environment Linux is rock solid, but my only use of linux is on my Roku and Nexus 7 - both have crashed 2 times in the last week - I have had 0 BSODs in Windows 7 or 8 since 2009, including use of pre release code on both versions. I know that is antidotal but hey, I know what I see and I haven't had a windows system crash that was not caused by hardware failure in many many years.
Being a smart ass is kinda a slashdot tradition...and as far as UX goes, Linux has done nothing but copy Windows since 95...with the possible exception of some tablet tweaked stuff from Ubuntu lately...
We all have had bad experience with managers but in my experience, good managers are needed. for every one terrific idea there are 5-10 terrible ideas...You cant just have new grads tossing money around without thinking thru how it will work, how much it will cost and how much money it will make and/or time it will save...
If you can prove that your idea is a good one, any competent managment team will go for it, but too many young people just want to put things in because they are new and shiny, that doesn't work so well in business...
I recall a few of my stupid ideas as a 22 year old, I had many outlandishly stupid ideas but I had a great manager who listened to all my goofy ideas and told me why they would not work, then one day I hit pay dirt and came up with an idea that would be able to automate so much of the IT operation that we would not need to hire some temps or interns for mundane tasks. That resulted in a nice bonus but more importantly a great lesson in how to think like a business when considering IT gear/platforms/initiatives.
I guarantee every talking head on TV would be calling for the DoJ to look into it...
This is all about PR and image, Google and apple are sexy, MS is big and boring, but arguably more critical to daily life (you have no idea how many devices and backend systems you use everyday are on Windows)
I remember the CS club in my school back in the day and as I recall, it was a room full of very bright students but they all pretty much kept to themselves, not because they were mean or bad or anything, it was just a room full of introverts - if my experience is any indication I would recommend any activity that gets the group working together to meet a goal and or have them share what they are tinkering with and offer to help others and receive help. the club in my school got a lot better when it was taken over by a teacher who really forced engagement.
There should be protocols in place for urgent or emergency out of cycle changes, it usually involves the two or three key technical people agreeing with a manager and a key business decision maker on a course of action and executing it, Any paper work is done by the manager(s) while the technical people fix the issue right then and there.
What if a bug cant be fixed and systems patched in 7 days time? are they going to cut corners on something like testing?
Going from bug report to design and code a fix, to test, to roll it out to the infrastructure in 5 working days seems like an impossible benchmark to sustain even with the super brainiacs working at google
You are incorrect, Please look at Server Core, Power Shell and other tech in Server that lets you run it GUIless and more UNIX like...Your insuts are based on Windows 2000/2003 products, times changed.
MS Bob was an interesting idea that just didn't work in the desktop metaphor and was then scrapped - but fortunately they only sold that as an add on and didn't replace the default shell with it! If they had done so at that tender time in history, we may well be talking about OS/2 or Amiga as the dominant platforms for X86 PCs now.
With Metro, unlike Bob, there is some usefulness as it is in my experience, a good tablet interface that they can grow on for a decade or two, but for the love of god, get it off of my workstation and non touch screen laptop!
Funny how the government can come down on a company when its the insiders that get screwed - Come n, joe q investor cant get hot IPOs like Facebook, its either employees and founders (which is OK) or big mega banks that set the deals up that end up getting the IPO shares and selling at the spiked post IPO price.
If there is an age issue, couldn't they just toss the funds into escrow, maybe an interest earning money market, and cut him a check on his 18th B-Day?
it was promised as a cash reward, don't force him to spend it on university...put it in escrow and cut him a check when he turns 18 if there is an age issue
Come on, he is just gonna out himself and become target number 1 for the US government? I seriously doubt it...this is a plant.
I would assume that the real source has much more than just that one PPT deck...come on, if you have that you must have more...

subject should be 1896 fraud and abuce act - didnt proofread the subject - Do'H
Can google and/or this guy be prosecuted for this because releasing the working demo is basically aiding and abetting a criminal
It is sickening that an ipad can have a better resolution than a 27 inch display that costs about the same price - that is all.

What we call incompetent, newly minted MBA drones call efficiency optimization.
Because win 7 will wont last for ever and glass touch screens are not a good replacement for mouse and keyboard in many office job types of work.
