This was the second financial fiasco for the person responsible: Maryantonett Flumian
Sad part of that is she got a promotion to Associate Deputy Minister of Human Resources Development Canada out of it. One of, if not, the biggest budgeted departments.
She is now spending like there is no tomorrow. The benficiary is IBM.
"...It's hard to put 'classified' on your list of publications on your résumé."
Actually, it would be easy for me to put "classified" on my list of publications on my résumé. It is just the "mostly as bullshit" part that wouldn't do me any good.
"One of the boys was seen on Chinese television telling police interrogators that he had started the fire in an act of revenge because staff at the cybercafe had refused to let him play computer games there."
It is a good start until it is shown to be "hand-waving". When you set your filters, firewall settings, RTBLs, do you expect 100% immediately, or do you have to wait, review, adjust and accomodate for variances?
I am so sick of the "instant gratification" mentality of the last thirty years!
People! YOU have to DO Something to get what you want! Bitching and Whining about how others have done something that doesn't meet YOUR standards is just showing what a lazy pussy you are!

The Register also has an article on webcasting and the RIAA. The two articles together show how webcasting may be the RIAA's Achilles heel.
In the bottom 10 (of 50), 1=HP-UX, 2=Linux, 3=Windows, 4=Solaris.
I think it is more the admins, rather than the OS's.
but MS... well, let's just say that the odds of the XBox making them money is quite low.
You are right.
Microsoft doesn't have to make more money. In fact, they are trying to figure out what to do with the money they've got.
Heh, I was going to say "What's that? a buck twenty?".
Actually, it's more like 733,360,738.55 USD.
You Yanks pay that for Pentagon toilet seats, right?

Downloading, burning to CDs, giving copies to friends, but not buying.
"The alternative is medication (which is how I kicked the video game habit before I became the next Columbine)."
I haven't seen those words strung together since the inimitable Jon Katz stopped posting.

Quick comparison. "Kill" & "Die"
Kill
"One of the boys was seen on Chinese television telling police interrogators that he had started the fire in an act of revenge because staff at the cybercafe had refused to let him play computer games there."
Die
"A South Korean man died yesterday after playing computer games at an Internet cafe for 86 hours nonstop, reports the Associated Press."
I have no point, just an observation.
Asking a stupid question shows ignorance for ten seconds.
Not asking a stupid question shows ignorance forever.

Nope.
They play the law like a cheap violin. Using it however it best serves their purpose.
If they want an idea, they steal it.
If you have worked for them, you can't have ideas of your own. See this as an example.
preferably pay per view
Better yet, PBS!
Your questions are legit, but its a good start, isn't it?
Man, the "Guide to being l33t" could easily be mistaken for the "/. Comment Guidelines".
Yes, it is.
Thanks.
That "interesting" e-mail is now "404" on the site.

a properly formatted search... ...is in the eyes of the beholder.
If you prefer to sift through 36K of results, cool.
I was looking for just the instances of the two in a particular sequence. YMMV.
