Thing is, though, I would never recommend downloading from work. It puts your employer in too much jeopardy for lawsuits, which is just not fair. That being said, they can pry the mp3s I have brought via external media sources and loaded on my PC from my cold, dead hands. When they start trying to convince my employer that I cannot have mp3s on my hard drive, even totally legal ones, we'll probably have to blow their fucking houses up (metaphorically, I think).

I do. Sounds to me like his ego to brain ratio was way, way too high. It's a consistent problem with many developers (not all, so don't even fucking think about modding this flamebait, flamers). Writing code is not necessarily easy, but you're not Jesus Christ or anything. I have yet to meet a developer that doesn't make mistakes. Ever.

Most atheists would rather you didn't lump them in with "religions". Out of all of the profane things that have been done throughout history in the name of religion, that is a great distinction. Thou shalt not kill thy neighbor, unless his theology isn't straight, then slit his throat.

Some things I will continue to not understand. Just because something is illegal does not make it immoral, remember who is running this country. But just for a moment, let's assume that that is not true. Whose morals are those? Yours? The general population? I don't give a f*ck what your morals are, what church you went to, or whether you helped an old lady cross the street this morning. I really don't care if you think my downloading of mp3s is wrong. Why should I? You are not my mother and you are not my boss. Outside of that I could not care less what the masses think. Most people in the world are mindless drones that believe whatever the rest of the flock believes. And to Britney Spears on her new ads against downloads, don't worry about it sweet cheeks, at least not until you learn how to freaking sing.

I support my favorite artists by going to their concerts and buying their non-mainstream CDs out of the trunks of their cars. They mark it up from the 20 cents or so they pay for CDRs to $10, and this way I know for a fact they are getting that well deserved $9.80. The absolute SHIT that the RIAA is pushing is not going to get a dime out of me, and tracks I do download are usually 20 years old from artists I at one time bought the CDs from (not personally, but from the store back when the music industry was less evil). Thing is, a lot of those artists that are putting out shit are only doing it because the record companies are forcing them to become pop dreck. When is the last time a Fleetwood Mac or a Pink Floyd quality gig came on the scene? Somehow I doubt that musical talent has diminished that much, I think the re-packaging is the real downfall of the industry.

I definitely agree with this idea of getting demo gear. If you have a decent alliances guy this shouldn't be too tough to swing. Thing is, renting other folk's equipment can be problematic. You cannot just get rid of the equipment the moment the software compiles. There are too many support issues that require you to keep those exotic pieces of hardware around, or something equivalent you can get your hands on quickly, like in a few days.

Alternatively, try to get some used lower end gear that will still work and still be usable for a few more versions of the OS. Your alliances guy could probably find some other small non-competing software companies you could partner up with to share some of these resources.
