My friends and I have been obsessively playing GLTron for a couple of weeks now, that game rocks!
The graphics are great and the gameplay is addictive. Somehow having a cockpit or chase view of the lightcycle makes the whole thing more fun than just the 2-d version
Pretty funny, seems a lot like a reformatted FAQ/advertisement/user manual, but... aimed at kids? I can't picture anyone old enough to read this then having the money to off an buy the stuff...
most villages are not doing 'fine' right now, net connection or not. if there's a chance that this can help them and they want it (presumably more than water if they are asking for it) and we're willing to give it to them... what exactly is your problem?
that's an extremely paternalistic attitude! shame! you think you know what's best for you. why shouldn't someone else? you don't have to GIVE them what they ask for, but it IS their life and their choice yo.
development projects invariably fail when 'we from the north' PUSH something on the south. they usually succeed only when we work WITH them, getting them what they want.
i have a cat that i really like. cats are pretty low-maintenance and have a well-established user base (== lots of available accessories already on the market, documentation online etc)
i don't think cats are particularly more or less nerdish/geeky/etc than any other pets tho...
i just found it a bit much to say "hi, here is my lifestyle in a word. you all who presumably also identify with this word, what do you think is the pet that corresponds with this word?"
i can't believe the inane questions that people ask on slashdot these days... "is this geeky enough?" "what would be geekier?" "could you please define my life for me?" "help me, i have no personal identity!" "*whine*"
seriously. people! "nerdish" "geeky"... if you are you are. if you aren't and you're asking slashdot how you CAN be... ehhhh, you need help, but not from us.
Engineers Without Borders is a young, but very dynamic (growing extremely fast) NGO looking to apply engineering know-how in the third world in areas like housing, energy, IT, water, demining etc... They are canadian primarily, but chapters are starting up all over the states, and internationally. An organization to watch (http://www.ewb-isf.org/)
i agree, i've been pounding on my powerbook g3 keyboard for over a year and it's better than anything else i've tried. other apple keyboards are also good, or at least better than anything else i've seen/tried. someone at work gave me a split keyboard for a day and totally screwed up my schedule, it took the rest of the week to catch up on my work
you people! doesn't ANYONE think that little kids watching stuff like Terminator is bad? or wrestling? YES! no kidding!
little kids like to emulate what they see. IRL on on TV... so if you're a parent and you're not around, you should damn well have the ability to stop this kind of thing! WTF is the problem with this????
Much as I hate microsoft, i've been using an intellimouse explorer for about 8 months, and it's been perfect. four buttons (five with the wheel) optical, USB...
works in X, on my mac. and durable. I shlep the thing in bags across the country/city/school all the time and it's never complained. cable problems? never.
heartless? hell yes!
