DirecPC has announced the two-way component that will allow you to upload as well. Starband is another very comparable satellite provider, which also allows upload/download. Both satellite services supposedly have a latency of 600 to 900ms.
... Considering he's still holding a grudge from 1995 against Squaresoft. He doesn't like the idea of them developing for their GameCube since Square abandoned Nintendo for the PSx.
That AC and SealBeater both had extremely good points. A worm is totally different from a virus anyway. (I replied to the guy's post that *nix was virus-resistant being a myth, not that *nix was worm-resistant.;))
I don't even think something like this would even require special privileges unless the machine was extremely restricted...
The "myth" isn't so untrue. Remember, you have to have vulnerable versions of rpc.statd and wu-ftpd installed/running for this 'worm' to gain access to the machine. That's really the system admin's fault for not keeping up to date.
Linux and other *nixish OSes are fairly "virus-resistant" (no OS is "virus-proof") as long as you don't run the virus as root, apply the patches for known security issues, and basically do your job as a sysadmin...
Do you trolls EVER stop? I mean, this thread is about a computing pioneer that just died who contributed a lot to the industry. Show some respect for once, you lame trolls.
(Sorry everyone else, mod it down if you want, but this needed to be said.)
All I have to say is that since CNN is now AOL owned, definitely take everything they say about technology with a grain of salt, e.g.
CNN: "Today we reviewed two set top boxes... AOL TV and WebTV. Obviously the AOL unit is superior to the WebTV unit because it's so easy to use, no wonder it's #1!"
I feel sorry for all of you RoadRunner users out there.
... Was someone posting Battlefield Earth: A Comedy Saga of the Year 3000 quotes again? I'd take it down voluntarily, too...
"TRANSMETA MIDORI. Australian for "LINUS."" :)

This is an interesting link. It seems that now the RIAA is siding against censorship, but only because the censoring could affect the RIAA's income...
... then that makes AOL the good guys. Let's not forget that New Line is an AOL/Time Warner company. :P
Well, one application could be to test the truth in this...

Even if it is a troll/offtopic/odd post, it's still pretty funny...
Simple.
.. Oops, hope the RIAA doesn't see this.

I noticed my grammar error. Don't point it out... So much for the preview button... :)
... or did we just see a story regarding Carnivore's name change about this on slashdot?
DCS1000... sounds like the model of a Terminator...
... they could always call it "Petter of Kitties" if they want it to sound cute and lovable...
"Windows crash" will take on a whole new meaning. Scary.
How about all the /.ers contribute a little... and we patent patents? :)
A troll? It just looks like the guy is expressing his opinions on the matter! Just because they don't agree with you doesn't mean they're a troll...
Well, OpenBSD has a patch out on their website for BIND, maybe it isn't for these vulnerabilities?
"OpenDNS" by the OpenBSD project.
Heh, if they're switching those 'evil' *nix boxes out for Windows boxes, this is only the beginning...

Sorry... This isn't very funny, I lost interest in it when I remembered that when this was in real use there would be no such thing as a shell...

I can't believe you guys actually think this was accidental! (just kidding, everyone :))
This is really spooky... I think they should have kept the method of how they did this (accidental or not) secret, personally.
We'd better all go to Yahoo.com and buy some pillows so we can catch the falling parts!
