Russia is well-known for highly poisonous rocket exhaust, especially from the PROTON rocket. I seem to remember this being used recently. Does anyone know if this is true and whether the launch vehicles Australia purchased might be using something similar?
What kind of lamer moderated this to Score:5? As opposed to USA, Russia uses liquid-fuel rocket engines that are both more reliable and environment friendly (if this term applies to rockets) than their American solid-fuel counterparts.

Well, I've read the article and it seems to me that they are mostly right. Pouring big money into developing something you won't own is dangerous and may not pay back, because some other company or even an individual can offer an added value service by taking your results without spending on the development.

On the other hand, I talked to a wireless software start-up founder recently. He said that the biggest obstracle he now encounters is that many companies are reluctant to adopt new (closed sourced) technology because they are afraid of becoming hostages of a software company.

So, in a sense, a company loses money developing GPL'ed software, on the other hand, the marked wants GPL'ed software. The obvious conclusion is that Open Source development will live, but it will be left to individuals entertaining themselves or monopolies that don't care about competition.

Just my $.02 worth of truisms.
