There is an external adapter that allows you to use a Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard on a SparcStatin/Sun Solaris Box.
You can even mess with xmodmap and invert caps lock and control, the way it is supposed to be on those boxes.
It's $80. I think most of the money is the fact that Sun beeps come from the KEYBOARD not the pc speaker, so the adapter has to intercept ^G and beep itself (it does). Freaky stuff.
It also allows you to use a normal serial mouse (Crystal Trackball!!!!!!).
I forget the part number but if people email me and ask me I can look it up, and maybe even supply my xmodmap file if you're that lazy.
But it exists!
You will hold the envy of your crippled coworkers.
Of course, nanotechs could be extremely dangerous if they build more of themselves. I would think one would want lots of security for them. Not just "answer simple orders" -- too easy to hack I would think.
But since I'm talking about something that doesn't exist I obviously have my head up my ass.
You have a radio receiver -- but you don't set it to ONE channel, but rather you receive all (or as many as practical) channels at once.
One radio station isn't completely random -- programs repeat, station IDs are said several times a day, the same commercials come on.
But the combination of ALL radio stations at any given time is 100% unique and probably will never occurr again as long as the planet is around (assuming a free press).
Taking the values of all stations simultaneously could result in a neat random seed that is never repeated twice.
Is this a stupid idea?!?
Phase 1: Get all radio waves on planet. Phase 2: Reduce to a number with enough bits to always be unique (128? 256? 1024?) Phase 3: ? Phase 4: Profit
I've wondered the same. What I want is a dual-head winamp for playing mp3s:
I'd like to put the standard windows desktop + winamp window with title information on my monitor (so people can see what is playing), while having my visualization plugin on my 2nd monitor (my 36' TV).
Well... I've taped about 6000 shows sofar at http://www.acm.vt.edu/~clint/media/vcr.htm... And I'm capturing new shows directly to AVI nowadays. I must have 12000 episodes.
Most ANALOG cable sends Guide+ info. My TV is capable of receiving that info. I automatically have a schedule inside the memory of my TV that contains all programming info.
It even has space for an ad, which gets downloaded. I was damn freaked out to see a commercial there. But it is kind of cool that my analog TV is capable of downloading images.
So... pressing Guide and seeing an AOL/Time Warner ad is not a new idea. It's already being done.
Not that this has much to do with the original topic, but I thought it merited mention.
Man I wish/. didn't require you to wait 20 seconds before hitting submit. Worse still is hitting back and having to retype the message!
I wonder if I've typed for 20 seconds yet.
I need a job and money.
I was hoping for freeware.
Man this world is cruel.

That's a good point.

Well... think about nanotechnology. If you had 1000 machines in a cubic inch, IP space would run out quickly even without going to mars.
IPv6 is definitely needed.
I've had this idea for YEARS...

but NOOOOOOOO... Of course I can't do that. PFFT

So.... You're wrong.
tee-hee
Nothing new about that!

Here are some old messages, poll results, and stuff from a BBS I used to run back in the day? Anyone remember me? I thought not.
I even have an ANSI converted to GIF.
And writing an ANSI to HTML converter was a pain in the ass.
Scorched Earth!!!!
