True, but here in VA every hurricane has been way overstated. Andrew closed everything and it literally was not even wet afterward. Yea, in 2005, no water for a week, but I didn't run out of water from my normal stock anyway. You know what fucked us up? The derecho -- more than anything in my life. And there was no warning for that. Most people didn't have power for a week, though I only lost it for 5 minutes (no internet for 12 hrs was the ahrd part). So having lived here 38 yrs, I've learned that the panic is generally greater than the actual threat.... so my bet is on the second-guessers.
The hurricanes last year put a stick on my roof. Possibly did knock a knot loose in my roof. Finally patched up the rot that caused Friday in anticipation for today's storm... And that's the most preparation ever.

That's not how I see it personally -- I see Fred Phelps in the column of very religious. That's what drives his action. Misinterpretation doesn't change that. There'd be nothing to misinterpret if religion wasn't involved. He'd probably be a hater, but he'd probably have chosen some other group (1d20 vs all existing groups).

I'd take the partially opposing perspective that Christianity and moralism are responsible for making it so that a) it's somehow "evil" to see someone's breasts, b) if a girl shows her breasts, she is a slut and a whore and should be ashamed of herself and do whatever it takes to have no one find out about it, c) if someone has a naked picture of you, they have some sort of power over you, because boobies are evil and we all should be ashamed of our beautiful bodies.
Smoking makes people work harder, like coffee but without the piss breaks. Drinking doesn't. Smoking only ends your life and increases medical costs near the end. Drinking does it sooner. Smoking doesn't intoxicate you. Drinking does. And e-cigarette (vaping) mitigates all the medical issues: Nicotine without cigarettes does no harm; accepted by any doctor you will ask.
Ghandi and Mandela going to jail were idiot moves that took away the enjoyment of their lives, as well as hindered them from taking the direct action they wanted to take. Martyrdom is for terrorists.
