  1. you go a bit too far... on XBox Screenshot Flim-Flammery? · · Score: 1

I occasionally post screenshots for others to see, undoctored, but I too open them up in Photoshop first because people don't like to download a 3 MB bitmap....

  2. Sleeping with computers.... on Booting Linux In Three Seconds · · Score: 1

The noise doesn't bother me, its all the damn LEDS...

With all the stuff in my room, there will be 3 LEDs from my DSL modem, 5 on my Linksys Router (more if other people have their computers on), and 1 from my NIC (my box's power and HDD LEDs are disconnected.. who needs them when you can tell by the sound of the fans or the Hard disks?)... Which makes that corner of my room relatively bright, it gets annoying sometimes....

I agree with this one especially.. Just listening to Dubbya...

"Church and charity, synagogue and mosque .... will have an important place in our plans and in our laws."

    "Atheists should not be citizens..."

Not exact probably, this is from memory, but that is what he said...

You can read "Church, synagogue, and mosque" as "people who believe in my god, my god, and my god...."

  4. May I suggest... on Correlations Between Video Games And Academic Achievement? · · Score: 1

If you are looking for something dissimilar to anything they will have played before, try the game Sacrifice. It is an RTS/FPS hybrid with a fantasy theme, very cool, and very different from any other games.

Their FPS Strafing and aiming skills won't help them since your creatures, not you, do most of the actual fighting, and their RTS "Built a lot of peon" skills won't help them either, as there isn't any traditional resource gathering.

Learning curve isn't too bad, just make sure they are all given a good 3 button/wheel mouse, it is essential for controlling the camera.

  5. OK, how do they define *FILTERING*? on FCC Seeks Comment on Internet Filtering Rules · · Score: 1

I work part time at a local library and the librarians there will probably resist these laws. Given that I know a lot about computers I would try and help them... I wonder how effective this "filtering" must be...
    Could I just edit the hosts file? www.goatse.cx 127.0.0.1 www.playboy.com 127.0.0.1
There, I just saved all the kiddies at my library from being corrupted forever by a large gaping Asshole and a softcore porn magazine. Would this be enough filtering to comply?

Barring that, How about we just install Cyber Patrol or whatever on the computers, and leave it OFF all the time except when the censorship Nazis come to visit.....

Now I work in the childrens department and I can tell you this software is totally unnecessary. Never once have I seen a kid go to an innapropriate site. The worst thing I ever saw was a wrestling site with the words "The Rock is gonna lay the smack down on your candy ass!". Now if some kid did try to get pr0n, it is quite simple. Someone would see him in about 30 seconds. He would not use those computers again! No filterware needed.

Next time I go in, I'm going to ask about this law and see what I can do to bypass it...

    Think about it

In America and other industrialized societies pretty much everyone survives and reproduces. I can't imagine much survival of the fittest going on...

Meanwhile in Africa I foresee that people will evolve to become immune to AIDS. AIDS is rampant in Africa, and we're going to see the emergence of a strain of humans who are naturally resistant to HIV. Simply because they will survive while everyone else dies.

Evolution is based on the deaths of those who are not fit... Something to think about.

It probably wasn't hard to crack at all. I know that at my school everyone knew about 50 ways to get past the security and you pretty much HAD to use them to get much work done. The people in charge always underestimate the kids who usually know more about computers than they do.
