This must be a trap, if you have ever printed with PLA you know it smells sweet, kind of like maple syrup. I could sit next to my printer all day cause it smells so good. I guess its time to invest in some type of vented enclosure for my printer.
My question would be is are they really going to search you for ripped media? i would think they would be looking for drugs and weapons over dvds to be honest. I think just having your movies on a laptop should be fine, portable hdd better, and on an ipod/iphone or some kind of mp3/4 player would be better (you can even watch them during your trip overseas).. If you have a large collection of burned movies on some type of media, then i would think about getting it all into digital form. SD cards can hold a large amount of data these days, and if you have a digital camera, just load the sd up with whatever, and pop it in your camera when you travel. I would say you have nothing to worry about. Or if its easier, you can mail your stuff to yourself at your new address in the US, this way you are not in possession of any type of media while going through customs.
a friend of mine that works for a big domain registration company, but the name i just cant remember, anyway where they said "If they register a domain before the official launch, people can find that and subsequently ruin the company's surprise." this is very true, my friend would always have some kind of an idea when new products were coming out just cause these companies would buy their domains in advance. At the launch of xboxone, if i remember correctly my friend said Microsoft didnt even try to register the domains until that day, during the event. They were just asking for trouble at that point
This is cool and all being that linux is slowly starting to take off in the world of the gamers. But my bigger concern is, what is dell/alienware doing about the IvyBridge switchable graphics? I have an Alienware M14x R2 with the 3rd gen i5 and a nvidia gtx650. BIOS doesn't let you enable just the video card you must run ivybridge at all times, so how do they plan to implement Bumblebee or maybe their own type of driver? I have ran ArchLinux on my alienware for a few months now, and i have barely been able to get bumblebee running nicely. Ive even switched my laptop over to Ubuntu at one point just to see if it was a difference in distros, which it wasn't. Unless nvidia has secretly been working on some kind of driver for the Optimus cards that i dont know about, then i would say this might be a bad move right now imho.
Its so true, ive been doing this for quite a few years now, im still in college finishing up my CS/IT degree, and to be honest i have been seriously thinking about switching my major to something unrelated to CS or IT. Ive been working in the field for at least 5 years now, ive done work in data centers, tech support (in house and phone) and when i just started i worked in a computer shop fixing pc's. Im only 23 and i can barely deal with the stress and b.s. that comes with the job(s). Computers are what i know best and always have, but really because of the work environment and people you work with, I really don't think this is what i want to do for the rest of my life.
This seems dumb imho. I run a CentOS server, I like to install a desktop interface onto it because there are a few things i use the server for that do require a GUI. and its also nice to be able to just open a web browser quickly if i need to test my internet connection after making changes since the server and my switches and modem are all in the same room. First thing i always do is install chrome, i was so happy to see it available for CentOS.. But now its gone.
I guess ill just switch back to Chromium.
I wish there were more events on the east coast. I live in NY, i rarely get to see many events out here. I've never been to a Linux event before, something i would like to do one day. But traveling across the country is not something i can really afford right now (broke college student). Maybe next time around there will be something closer
Its called pre-paid.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_mobile_virtual_network_operators
this is a list of every pre-paid carrier in the US, and what carrier they mooch off of. So if your so called "only" carrier in the area is on this list as an MVNO carrier, then you can take your unlocked phone to that provider and pay WAY WAY less than any on-contract carrier.
So lets say on the odd chance my new playstation dies in a fire or implodes or something these new fancy consoles like to do, and i am forced to replace it with another. Technically this is another console, so are you saying i have to buy the same games i already own again?
Or is this going to be more similar to Steam. Using keycodes with the disks that are assigned to a users account, so all they need is a user id and password to play their games anywhere. Next question is, would you still need to have the disk to play it once its been registered to you?
Honestly i this this idea is DUMB. You will put gamestop and game rental companies out of business. People will eventually find a way past the DRM so theres no use in even trying. Plus i still like to trade games with some of my friends for a few days to see if i even like the game before i buy it.
Leave the DRM bullcrap and game linking to the PC world, this sort of thing doesn't belong on a console. Sony, IMHO if you want to restrict people to what they can and cant do on a gaming console, not many people will buy your console, this is a very bad move.
I have a Lenovo x120e running Fedora 17, its a pretty small but not too small laptop. they are built nicely and can take the abuse from elementary school kids.
another good laptop is the Latitude D & E series (D630, D680, E6400) all of them run ubuntu pretty well, and lenovo and dell both offer linux drivers on their website so you know everything should be supported
When Microsoft signed up with Nokia, at first i thought it was the worst idea ever, ive owned several nokia phones, my favorite was my n97. amazing phone would have been even better on android. Nokia can def make some quality handsets and appeal to both the consumer and the business. I just recently got a Lumia 900, coming from a Motorola Atrix, and i can honestly say my Nokia blows my android out of the water, maybe not so much in apps, but the speed and design of WP7 imo is pretty solid. Android may have a huge marketplace, but that phone used to want to force close apps randomly, would reboot whenever it felt like, and just sometimes froze altogether. It was even rooted running cyanogenmod 7. i love my nokia, and everything about it, the color, the screen, the OS, it all just fits together perfect and just makes the phone that much better. Plus the battery life of my nokia, 4.3" screen compared to the 4" on my atrix and the 1850mAh battery in my nokia compared to the 1920mAh in my Atrix, My nokia lasts me a good 2 days on one full charge, Atrix... i was lucky to get 8 hours.
RIM on the other hand, ive had my share of blackberries too (8310 curve, 9700 Bold, 9550 Storm II, 9800 Torch) HATED each and every one. They were boring, reliable no doubt, battery lasted forever, their antennas were great too full service all the time everywhere. They had nothing to offer the normal user, everyone seems to be buying phones for the apps and colors now, not by what actually makes the phone great (eg; cameras, screen type, cpu, storage, OS). i usually dont get crappy phones, i always try to get the best of the best when it comes to phones, and from the great deal of phones ive had, my Nokia is really my favorite out of them all. I also think BB OS 10 isnt going to be all that great. RIM is trying really hard to stay in the market, and just no one wants a blackberry anymore, so its time for them to just stop trying.
Stick with Nokia microsoft, they can make a great phone, and Windows Phone is a great OS for the phone to attract both the business user and the consumer.
This is just stupid IMHO. The price of an internet connection is high as it is, and its not even all that fast, i pay 49$ for my basic 15D/2U connection, plus an extra 15$ to bump it to 60D/10U because i run a high traffic home hosted server. Im not about to shut down my websites and all my services just because i might have to start paying a tax because i want to run a server...
Theres 3 bestbuy's all within 15 min from my house, and i still refuse to go to them, i actually would rather take the 1 hour drive to the only Microcenter near buy because they usually always have what im looking for.
Bestbuy is way way way too overpriced, they had some good deals but its usually on stupid stuff (tv's, sound systems, cameras)
i never went to bestbuy for anything computer related, i used to go there just to look, but when i saw they wanted 199$ for a Radeon HD 5770, which is maybe 59$ on newegg, i just walked out of the store and dont ever want to go back. Plus their employees are all just brain dead, or at least the few around me seem to be that way.
Geek Squad is another rip off, My primary job is a computer repair technician out of a small local computer store, all of our prices are pretty reasonable, but we have a chart that shows us compared to geek squad. If you cracked your laptop screen and its out of warranty/no accidental coverage, and you go to best buy, well first its about 150 for them to just look at it, which they dont, they just ship it off to texas, when it gets to texas they give it another assessment, where they tell you its going to be about 300$ to get it fixed.. ON TOP OF the $150 you already spent for them to "look at it". Where i work we do all the work in our shop and the average 15.4" LCD is about 170$ installed. Another thing that really turned me away from geek squad was for some reason i dont know why and i have asked them before and no employee will tell me (prob because they have no idea) but say you need a re-install of windows on your computer. Well off the bat geeksquad wants 180$, PLUS they wont even reuse the copy of windows you already paid for when you bought your computer.. instead they make u buy a new copy of windows, they install that on your computer AND they dont even give you the disk that you just bought!
I honestly could care less if bestbuy goes under, they lost me as a customer years ago.
does anyone know which distro's primarily will get steam? from what ive been reading and hearing it looks like its mostly going to be ubuntu. im am not the biggest ubuntu fan ever, i mainly use Arch and Fedora and im sure in time they will get ported to those distro's as well. but right now is it mainly ubuntu?
Maybe they are going to start collecting more to help fund prime air. Either way i get it 50% off with my student discount :P

Am i the only one that feels "Hard-Coded" should be the word in quotes, not Left and Right.

So will these drivers be available on linux systems too? i think im still using Catalyst 12.9

I still wont switch to KDE. I just don't like it. Gnome 2.X is still my favorite or just keep it simple with LXDE.
