Actually it is. DMCA has a provision stating that it is illegal to circumvent copy protection that controls access to the work. Therefore, it can be argued that ripping a dvd, which removes the embedded DRM, is technically illegal, unless the producer of the work grants the right to do so. As it is also illegal to traffic in software designed to circumvent DRM, on can only come to possess it by theoretically illegal means. Meaning that, in the strictest legal sense, should you copy a dvd to your phone as, say, an avi, without the express approval from the producer of the work, then you have actually broken 1 law and been the procurer of illegal goods. Note, I don't condone DMCA or anti-piracy legislation. I myself believe that piracy is a means of rebellion to the end of capitalistically controlled government implemented sanction against consumers and citizens. Passing laws such as DMCA that limit a legitimate users ability to use the works or products they buy in the means that best suits them is certainly cause for revolution against the institutions that allow for such blatant and through disregard of a citizens right in favor of a businesses profits, in my opinion.

Hear me out before your dismiss this. I've done quite a bit of web design and prgramming, which as most of us know actually is different. I tend to use a WYSIWYG program (Dreamweaver) to set my canvas (ie open tags, headers, etc) and then proceed to hand write both my CSS and my actual HTML/PHP while watching it evolve in the design window. This means less time refreshing a browser window to watch progress and evolve my design and more efficient coding, for me at least. I think there are benefits of both styles and it seems to me that those who focus solely on one style always miss something whether in design or code efficiency.

I work for a company that takes care of e-waste. The problem we face is that many times we are outbid by companies that then ship the waste off shore or simply stripped and tossed. The company I work for actually has teams in our warehouse that comb through every piece and find pieces that are available for resale. Those pieces that aren't are them dismantled, categorized and shipped to certified recyclers so that each and every piece that can possibly be recycled is. We even recycle most of our shipping materials. There are costs associated with recycling your systems, sure, but it's better than paying the EPA fines if your caught even once. Also, some recyclers, including the one I work for, will actually pay you for your electronics in some cases, depending on type and condition. Many times there are lots of things that we could be doing differently as a society to increase our ecologic awareness and minimize our e-waste impact. We simply don't because it's not the most convenient option. As I'm not trying to plug my company, I'll leave out the name. If your interested ask for it in the comments.

It appears to me in posts like this that the true nature of our electoral process is actually lost on most people. It doesn't matter if the popular election is biased one way or another, or if you have strong feeling for a certain candidate. Our electoral process makes it so that your personal vote doesn't really matter anyway, because you long sense cast your vote by the electors you put into power. Like Santa and the Tooth Fairy, our power of election is simply a myth we teach our children to make sense out of complex ideals and inspire hope. Overall, many people seem to not know or understand the process by which a president is elected. For burden of proof I submit that one should research the Electoral college and the 12th Amendment. Also on a side note I submit that one should inspect the amount of president who were not of the two major parties or the Senate so that they might understand the fallacy of believing in the capabilities of a 3rd party candidate winning an election.
