When a prof cannot even describe why he gave you an F on an otherwise perfect paper.
complain to the dean. if you can prove that a teacher (or the grader) is inept, you can get your paper re-graded, and the ineptness removed from the payroll.
Its not the teachers job to judge me as a person, its the teachers jobs to judge my work. This is exactly why we need machines, because certain people such as yourself want to judge the person and not the work.
a teacher's primary job is to teach, not "judge [your] work". although, testing the knowledge you have gained may be a part of that task. objectivity in grading is important. this is why any student can complain to the dean of unfairness. seems to me that this has often been acceptable in eliminating unfair teachers. compare this system of checks and balances to a program that may or may not be 100% correct. every student that gets an unfair grade will still complain, and then the work will be hand checked (by the teachers that you call unfair). no non-trivial program is ever 100% correct; just like people.
on a personal (read offtopic) note: if you go into a class knowing everything, perhaps it is better for you to skip it altogether. thus a teacher helping you skip the course (by flunking you) is really giving you what you are asking for.
If you skip courses on a regular basis, why do you go to school anyway? you obviously know everything, perhaps the teachers aren't flunking you because of your poor attendance, but for your poor attitude. might want to thing about that while ditching class.
another key point to make here is that this guy can hack a company and then do one of: 1) try to sell his services to the company to prevent such hacking in the future, 2) take any information he discovered and sell it to the highest bidder.
either way he can profit. I don't care if some one is "testing my lock". I do care that they are trying to bend me over a barrel and invite their friends over for a party.
I will go out today and do something illegal. Lets see... shoplift some fruit from the super market. I'll bring it back in a few hours and tell the manager that they have been robbed by myself and offer my services in helping prevent the same event in the future.
I guess it really matters what kind of mood the manager is in at the time. He could have me arrested. After all, I did break the law by stealing, even though I brought the items back. Or he could let me go and perhaps hire me.
If I am foolish enough to take those chances, I deserve whatever I get. Hopefully he gets some jail time. That will teach him to stay off of my property. If he wants to sell me a service, he should inform me beorehand what he is planning on doing, and let me opt out. that jackass.
I personally think whithats are great, but this guy is walking a fine line. He is using an illeagal talent to profit. He could just as easily blackmail the company he is hacking if they refuse to accept his help in sealing the holes. Either way, he can profit, and both are brought about by a inllegal activity.
these companies may be subsidiaries of a larger company. often in that situation, the daughter companies will get "approved" copy from the mother company.
do some research on a company like Illonois Tool Works, where it is very prevelent across its 5000-6000 daughter companies.
well... if you are the disaster management department in that locality, and withstood the blast... but your datacenter didn't... having the data backed up elsewhere could be handy... if far fetched.
iwish i had know about the 533 celerons as well... imagine a beowulf... you know.
but I think he was trying to say that CPU speed isn't important. the relative performance is the key. the statement application a always starts fater than application b should translate well across cpu speeds.
the part i think he may not have though about... other optimizations between a 366mhz and a 2.5ghz have altered the relative speeds. app b may start faster on the newer machine because of optimizations in recent CPU versions.
i would have modded it funny.. but then again... many trolls are funny. there is some overlap there... leading to the conclusion that the mod-terms should be updated.
excellent post. experience will lead you down the correct path. This statemnt goes far beyond work and extendes deeply into life. as you get older you will locate the things you need to be happy. hopefully what you have spent lots of time in shcool on lies in that vein. it is good to sit down today... possibly with a few beers and close friends to talk about what makes you tick. this will expose your desires for life, and may lead to correct decisions in your career.
when walking into a company, it is very often helpful to see (at the bare minimum) a comment at the top of a program that mentions what it does. I have often seen code that obviously does something... and does it in a complicated enough manner that the function of the code is obfuscated.
if the binary/script is named change_resource, and there is no comment telling what it does, how would you find out? often the only way is to docode the code, which can be very time consuming.
Since when has verizon been nice enough to notify it's users that their personal information is being requested. I thought that
1) verizon's contract said it can disclose a person's personal info without notification 2) verizon has such a hard on for driving people crazy, that they would never do something to help a fellow out
"clientless" typically means you don't need to manually install 200 clients. the java client takes care of everything, and when you close the session, there is nothing extra remaining on your system.
this is also handy if your admins don't like worrying about installing things on your CEO's palm pilot.
Yes, it does work. It can be handy for connecting via windows/linux/unix/palm/mac and more. The key is that you use a capable browser to download a java (it could be something else) vpn client that runs. When using the browser, SSL protects you, and once the java client is running, you are running a non-installed client.
I worked for a company, openreach, inc. that did a nice job on clientless VPN, although their bread-n-butter was site to site VPN.
According to a very long article/discussion I read somewhere (sorry, can't remember the URL), NiCd batteries are easily damaged by overcharging, which tends to reduce their capacity over the life of the battery - and there is no so-called "memory effect".
I'm not sure about over charging, but they used to have problems with filing to get a full charge if used before they were fully charged. This has been fixed in the last couple years, though.
Cut a hole in a cabinet door at eye level large enough for the screen. cover the inside of the hole with plexi-glass. build a shelf on the inside of the door to rest the panel and gear on. put hooks above and below the setup for bungi cord ties. mouse and keyboard can be on a sliding shelf under the cabinet.
4 hooks = $2 12" x 9" plexi-glass = $10 cut at home depot sliding shelf = $15 (not sure about that price for a new one... used office furniture stores have them for very little money.)

correct... and without the human touch, computers wouldn't be advancing anything at all.

Collect 'em all, kids!
yikes. that's all i can say. +1 odd.

unless you are within the same goegraphical location. a nuke would take out both data sets.

am i wrong?
whoops... meant to add that "clientless" is a marketing thing.... so yes there is a client, but it is temporarily running and not installed locally.

she's whining about spredsheets and you expect her to whip out some regexs?
but it _was_ funny

that would be "amber", not orange.
