Tell me a-freaking-bout it! And where the hell did freaking exporting your database scripts to individual files (one per object!) go??? Thanks a hell of a freaking lot Microsoft! Now I can't even connect to SQL2005 databases with Enterprise Manager anymore! At least I can still use Query Analyzer though...
Management Studio is the one thing keeping me from moving my dev environment over to SQL2k5.
The weird thing is, a knee-jerk reaction might say that it's because they wrote it in WinForms/Managed code that it is so crash prone and slow....but VS.NET 2k5 is a MUCH more complex app and it performs like a champ.
Another thing! Where the HELL does Management STudio get off eating up 80megs when I JUST OPEN IT!!!
God that thing is a monstrosity.
Microsoft better be glad SQL2k5 itself (the engine) has so many kick-ass improvements...cause otherwise I'd skip this version entirely.
Wow, you don't know how to setup your DB connection so it's.NET's fault? Do you really think it's an instability in the language that causes random security exceptions? Companies are running multi-million dollar systems using.NET technology (and MS SQL Server for the back-end..migrated FROM Oracle! ooooohhh) and you think it's got some kind of stupid random security exception error?
Yea...without a doubt. But to expect no one to rebuild/return (even if you assume that DOESN'T imply the entire city shuts down..which it really does imply) is ridiculous.
Yes, you probably are the only one. The areas affected in Mississippi (and may of the areas in Louisiana, like Slidell) aren't below sea level. Do you really expect New Orleans (the area below sea level) to not rebuild? That's ridiculous. It's not just hundreds of thousands of people's homes, it's also their work, friends, family, businesses.....you expect EVERYONE to just pack up and leave?
But, to answer your question again, I'm sure you're not the only one actually. There are lots of ignorant people in the world. Especially on Slashdot.
Personally I haven't noticed that problem with Linux, but I did have a gig of ram so and I'm overly conscious about keeping my memory usage in check...I no longer run Linux so I can't do a real comparison at the moment...
But, what I find interesting is that Windows will use my pagefile WAY sooner and more frequently than Linux (or FreeBSD for that matter) does. And it's not cause I'm out of physical memory in Windows...From just a cursory glance this would make it seem like Windows is more intelligent about putting infrequently used portions of memory into the pagefile while Linux just uses physical memory until it runs out and then switch to the swap space.
I'm sure that's a gross oversimplification, but is it even right somewhat I wonder? I honestly don't know. I'm sure there's some kernel tweak to modify that behavior though.
Seems very strange to have a directory with 52 million user objects....surely they're not all users that actually need to authenticate at some point, are they? Even so, it seems like a real database would be better suited to this task.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not calling you a liar...I'm geniunely interested why you'd use a directory service for 52million users instead of a database like Oracle or (heaven forbid) SQL Server ?
Do you honestly believe a major city and even more major port would NOT be rebuilt? It's not like the entire city has to be bulldozed and rebuilt from the ground up....some bulldozing, but mostly sheetrock work in affected buildings and mostly on the 1st and sometimes 2nd floors.
Not sure what the point of the bots is exactly, but the only good they'll do is let you automate your play and give you a slight edge against players on average. A skilled player won't be phased by the bot...a bot can't inherently play better than a person. Not until better AI is developed at least.
That's the switch dialog I had...my wife still found it confusing. It be a little difficult (non-default) to start more than one session for users like that.
There was another feature of WINE I needed that the new version had...I forget what...I believe it was compatibility with those DX9 patches for vanilla WINE.
There isn't a whole lot a poker bot can do for you that most skilled players can't do in their head anyways. The ONLY advantage to a bot is the automation. Being able to consult one while you're playing isn't an edge against a good player.
All it is is a crutch weak players can use against other weak players.
Also, if you're consulting a 'bot' for all of your play then your play isn't going to change and you'll get swallowed whole by the first decent player you sit at a table long enough with.
And if you can change up your play while using the bot/app then you're probably going to see that it's not that hard to figure up the pot odds and other things a bot would do for you on your own.
Why would they waste their time cheating?? The rake alone is massive profits.
And besides, if they EVER get caught cheating (former employee rats them out or something) then people will simply stop playing there and now they've lost what was their big money maker...the rake.
As another poster already put it...UltraEdit and VS.Net do what I need them to do. Equivalent or more FEATURES are *NOT* what I am looking for. A usable user interface *IS*. There are good text editors for *n*x...and Kate is VERY close for me to UltraEdit...it's just not quite as zippy as I had gotten used to with UltraEdit...
As far as VS.Net, WTF are you talking to me about compilers and debuggers for? I didn't say I don't have a csc (mcs) equivalent on Linux, I was talking about the IDE.
(me too!!!)
(begin rant)

Hah.....I have some sick urge to see just what the hell is so bad about this picture.
Nice line.

and he means this
Oh.......
No, he meant the broom.
"Me too" follows....
Does MySQL even have anything comparable to MRS,or DTS (I forget its replacement at the moment)??

Sure .NET has a successor to ActiveX.

Maybe it's the new tallscreen format we've been hearing so many rumors about.

MS doesn't need to *kill* XUL. XUL isn't even on the map.
Really doesn't have anything to do with Firefox. Why develop an app (using XUL) that only 8% of users MIGHT use?
I'd be curious to know of any corp/intranet XUL apps though. That's the only real place they could thrive (assuming the clients had Moz/FF).
Riiiiight....cause XUL has such huge acceptance right now? Komodo is nice sure, but after XAML is released it will quickly overtake XUL in users.
What do you mean *IF* New Orleans gets rebuilt ?
Do you honestly believe a major city and even more major port would NOT be rebuilt? It's not like the entire city has to be bulldozed and rebuilt from the ground up....some bulldozing, but mostly sheetrock work in affected buildings and mostly on the 1st and sometimes 2nd floors.
I think they should do that

Yea, you could. That's why I say automation is the advantage. Consulting is not.

A B&M casino could cheat you just as well.

Was my post a troll...you gotta be kidding me.
it's EXTREMELY STUPID to think that anyone thinks or was trying to imply "no-one in the world could dislike Google".
I guess we have different understandings of the term "general sentiment".
