actually Mac OSX is available for the x86... and it's not a hard port to make, as you stated- the basis for the new Mac OS is OSS, so the ports to x86 are as simple as recompiling portions of the *bsd bottom line code to accept x86 archetecture.. but you still don't see it sweeping the globe. Why? as a friend put it nicely 'I used it once and hated it, there is no way you'll get me to use it again, no matter what they've done with it'.. they had a chance to get people to like them, and didn't.. *shrugs* then again, in the OS market POV works just as well

I want an OS that *Isn't* hardware specific, lets me upgrade whenever I want, because man, that extra few Megs of ram sure are nice, but having some guy come to my place, or trying to *find* a mac store to bring it into, are just *not* my idea of fun. *Doesn't* expect me to be a mindless four thumbed monkey that gets told what software they *should* have. *Won't* be worthless two weeks from now because a new *insert-name-of-virus-here* email has corrupted my HD because of the lame@$$ email program that was bundled with the OS, that I didn't ask for, nor do I want.
