I'm not sure I know anyone who uses IE who even knows that Chrome exists.
That's not the point. (also, there are Chrome billboards everywhere here in the city) This is the point:
Bank of America has apparently recently added Google Chrome to their list of officially supported browsers.
I called this! On Slashdot!
Also, you can phone up your bank, if their site's not working for you and scream: "WHAT DO YOU MEAN, YOU DON'T SUPPORT GOOGLE?" and they'll get with the Google.
I am not a developer, but I do care. I do know about the "incestuous" relationships of the media playing libraries in the OSS world. I do know that having one alternative less is a bad thing, especially in the long run. I'm also very grateful for LAME and don't "wish the death of" any one of the projects you mentioned.
I do provide feedback to OSS developers, hopefully in the form of constructive suggestions. Maybe not media related ones, as that isn't my forté, but others. I've petitioned daringfireball to bring some attention to the matter. He reaches a lot of Mac devs. I think I'll try that Delicious Monster guy next.
My post above was not about dancing on the grave of the traffic cone, but to provide a service to the community: to share with other people an alternative way of playing media well that they may not know about, as I have only recently (re-)discovered Mplayer OSX Extended.
I guess that what I meant to say to you is: "Don't shit all over people you don't know and have only read one sentence of."
Also, you can phone up your bank, if their site's not working for you and scream: "WHAT DO YOU MEAN, YOU DON'T SUPPORT GOOGLE?" and they'll get with the Google.
And that's the problem. Companies with shareholders are required by law to compete as hard as they can.
That's actually not true.
A common economic theory is that what's best for a company is to aim to Maximise Shareholder Value, and that the best way to do that is to compete as hard as they can. But it's not law.
But even then, "as hard as they can" doesn't include anti-competative behaviour (or other unlawful things, like bombing AMD offices) because the EU will go and sit on you.
Actually you should be more worried about rain...how it takes to soak into the new asfalt...
Anyway, new tarmack has allready been invented ( to be quiet, yes). It's called ZOAB (Zeer Open Asfalt Beton, which means Realy Open Asfalt Concreet). It's nice airy mix of asfalt & concreet which reduces the time for rain to soak in, making it a lot safer to ride on in heavy rain & is quite a bit quieter..
There are also newer versions that are even quieter, but so far only ZOAB is use on almost all the dutch high-ways.
I wish these people would just combine their efforts instead of staying in that NIH (Not Invented Here) mode.
Debian doesn't go for the "every half year" release..
However, it's just the last release (Woody) that took so long... That was for a number of reasons: - XFree had to be ported to 11 archs (up from 6), 3 or 4 of which X hadn't been ported to before. - 'Testing' was created, as to have a smoother transition beween 'unstable' and 'stable'. - KDE (2.2) was added to main, a first for a stable debian release. That produced some quirks of it's own.
However, with the upcoming release (sarge, now testing) there were 2 main hurdles: - The GCC 3.2 migration (ABI change) (KDE brakeage hell was spared by waiting with 3.x) - GTK(+) 2.x -> Gnome 2.x There is however 1 more hurdle: The new installer, which is coming along. Knoppix also made clear that 'automagic' was posible with debian.
Perhaps the question should be - is there any reason Sun _shouldn't_ buy SusE?
Perhaps the question should be - is there any story in which 2 companies anounce working together where a slashdotter _doesn't_ think the one will buy the other?
Please, use your brain, owning SuSE has no stratigic advantage to Sun under current circumstances.
You're saying: "There is no paradox" (+1 Matrix Quote)
However, the paradox the article discribes is that there shouldn't be any single moment in time, as an object could have a spot in it. They're saying: "There is no moment." (-1 Overused Matrix Quote)
However, I think Spinoza could enlighten you some, as he once said: (freely quoted) To define time, is just to limit eternity. One who can not understand that, doesn't understand time itself.
What about doors and stairs?
I have replaced Safari with Chrome as my default browser on Mac.

(In a Chrome OS topic, but still)
Well, Rogério Brito,
Hi.
I am not a developer, but I do care. I do know about the "incestuous" relationships of the media playing libraries in the OSS world. I do know that having one alternative less is a bad thing, especially in the long run. I'm also very grateful for LAME and don't "wish the death of" any one of the projects you mentioned.

Signed, "user like the one above"
Sad to see VLC struggling, but there's always Mplayer OSX Extended for the mac. Get the extra codec pack and it can play anything!
Laden or unladen?
So freedom is what you want me to do.
I get it!
Also, you can phone up your bank, if their site's not working for you and scream:
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN, YOU DON'T SUPPORT GOOGLE?"
and they'll get with the Google.
Try that with StarForce..
Also: Include the kazillions earned via merchandising! Cars made tons!
Steve Jobs becoming majority share holder of Disney
No, no, no! He is the *largest* (single) shareholder! A stake of around 7% from what I last heard...a majority shareholder would have > 50%+1!
How can you fudge numbers up like that - this is slashdot dammit!
Sure, but AMD is an anagram of MAD!
And that's the problem. Companies with shareholders are required by law to compete as hard as they can.

Only a 2 I'm affraid.
Why it stays that way is more interesting, but beyond the scope of this posting.
Would it be entirely inaccurate if I could summarize that with the single word "greed"?
No, it's because it's a necessary simplification of an uncertain future. Mark-to-market ftw, as the kids say.
You, sir, win.
I am so sorry. Never knew e-waste was such a problem.
I'll never throw out a pdf again!

Of course, Slackware is allready 10 years old!
He'd be smarter?

Please enlighten me.

To define time, is just to limit eternity. One who can not understand that, doesn't understand time itself.
There's no time like this time.
Hey, don't even think of talking yourself out of this one...
;)
You were wrong. Admit it.
Probably just in the time when a couple of monks moved to America...these thing happen...
You might actually be able to tell me what "angst" means in english, as in dutch it's just 'fear'.
Please describe it, as most of the time I've a hard time figuring out what Americans mean by it.
And with even myself the 'grandparent' poster here, actually being bi-lingual in dutch & english.
I too can say that it does not, in any way, at all, look anything like dutch.
Sorry.
